What do you think of the name Sharon? I've always liked it because it was my mom's name, but I want to know what connotations it stirred up for other people. I definitely don't see it around a lot. Thoughts?

I had a good friend in junior high named Sharon. I don't hear the name too often, even in middle aged people, certainly not people my age. It's nice enough. Not on my list at all, or even a thought, but it's a nice name:)

I know one person my age with this name, and it suits her, but just about everyone else I know with this name is from my parents' generation, so I'd have trouble seeing it on a younger perso. It's an okay name to me, but kind of plain.

it's a very mid-century name, it was top 20 in the 40's and 50's. when i hear it i automatically think about people like my elementary school lunch lady, my girl scout leader, etc. but in itself it is not a bad name. it's actually quite pretty when you take it out of context. It makes me think of Rose of Sharon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_of_Sharon) which is also a nice association.

It was my favorite name for a girl through the 90's and I was determined to use it for my future daughter's name :)
Nowadays I've dropped it and I don't either like it nor dislike it, but like you said, it's not seen around a lot, so it's one of the names I wish a revival for!

A few of my friends' parents are named Sharon. I'm not sure it would work on a young person, but it's pretty nonetheless. I would consider it for a middle name.

It sounds dated to me and not in a good way, but I don't think it's an awful name. I think of Sharon Osbourne and Sharon, Dawn's mom, from the BSC books.

I have no huge problem with it and looking at some of the names that crop up in birth announcements it definetly could have been worse. But I do find it dull and very ordinary.

Definitely a mom name. I hear it and see a 50-year-old. I can't imagine it on anyone under 40. It's not that it's an ugly name, it's just unmistakably out of style. If you're special about it (understandable, since it was your mom's name) you might use it as a middle. Alternately, I seem to remember hearing that Sharon and Bethany were both names for the same area in the Bible? Maybe you could use Bethany as a "modern" version of Sharon.

I definitely thought of somebody's mom. Like, in their forties or fifties. Kind of dated, since the first people that jumped to mind were Sharon Stone and Sharon Tate.
