[identity profile] renishas.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I have decided not to officially pick a name till out baby is born but we've been compiling ideas and I wanted some feedback.

Boy-
Xandar Paul

Girl-
Aiedyn Colleen
Venice Adilfa

Any thoughts?

Why the -ar ending on Xandar?

All those unnecessary letters in Aidan (which is a boys name) doesn't make a difference in the pronunciation. It's still a gross name. Colleen is nice.

Venice is not one of the better place names. All I see in Adilfa is DILF (Dad I'd like to...).

Aiedyn and Adilfa make me go o_O. I'm guessing there's a reason or story behind those names. If Aiedyn is a creative spelling of Aidan, I vote no. If it's pronounced another way, then maybe.

Even if there's a reason behind Aiedyn, it's still a horrible name. Reasons don't always make something better.

The spelling is terrible, yes, but I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt in case it wasn't prn. Aidan. At first I read it ay-ee-din. Aside from that, Aidan will always be a boy name to me.

Just out of curiosity, how did you choose those?

Aiden is not even the original spelling, so it's not technically anything. Plus that spelling makes you seem illiterate and it will reflect badly on your child.

Aiden/Aidan has not "become more prevalent as a boy's name recently," unless you mean the recent surge in the popularity of the name in general. It hasn't seen much unisex usage except in very recent times.

There is no advantage to messed up spellings.

Xander and Aidan are fine as is. Aiedyn does NOT make it more girly. It just makes it a PITA.

if you name your daughter Aidan, people will think she's a boy for most of her life. not to mention she will have many classmates named Aidan/Braden/Caden/Jaden, etc.

what about Aislyn? it sounds similar but is definitely feminine, and not hugely popular.

Or better yet, the original spelling - Aislin.

yep. I actually wasn't aware that was the original spelling. I know an Aislyn, and before she was born I'd never heard of the name.

Well I'm not sure if the original is Aislinn or Aislin, but the -lyn ending was definitely a way to make it all "American."

I'm pretty sure the original is Aislinn :)

Xandar Paul - Xander Paul wouldn't be too bad. I like Xander but I still think it doesn't flow very well.

Aiedyn Colleen - Aiedyn? Oi vey. I couldn't even TELL that was a variant of Aidan and let alone on a GIRL! I saw Ay-ie-den or something. This is the type of name people post here as shitty names. Colleen isn't bad. Not a favorite name of mine but not one I'd cut down.

Venice Adilfa - I'm not a fan of place named and Adilfa bugs the hell out of me, not as much as Aiedyn. And if Adilfa is a family name, then I don't mind it AS MUCH.

Xandar Paul - are you pronouncing it zan-darr (opposed to zan-dur)? I prefer Xander.
Aiedyn Colleen - I love Colleen, but Aiedyn is terrible.
Venice - NMS but not bad.

I think you get the general census here... That is a horrible and illiterate way to spell some of those names. Don't curse your child with a stupid name because you thought it was cool or whatever. Adilfa is mostly alright because of the story you told...

It's spelled Xander
It's spelled Aidan and it's an irish boy's name (not against boys names on girls here but you seem to be under the impression it is unisex, it is not)

I like Xander, spelled this way, and am indifferent to Paul.

To me, Aiden is a boys' name. Either way, you definitely SHOULDN'T spell it the way you have it here- Aiedyn looks absolutely horrible, sorry. :(

Venice is not one of the better place names.

I don't like Adilfa or Colleen, but since you have reasons for them...

i agree Aiedyn can be spelled whatever way you want, but there are just too many vowels in a row.

i dont like adilfa, but as a family name i guess its ok.

xandar is cute. not crazy about paul.
my friend's cat is named alexander. her kids call him alex the xander lol
