Rilla

The other day I met my friend Dana (who is male)'s sister. Her name is Rilla. This is my first time hearing this name, and I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's pronounced like it looks, like gorilla. I think it's for that reason I'm not too fond of it.

Thoughts?

Someone has read all of the Anne of Green Gables books! Rilla is the name of one of Anne's daughters.

I, like the two previous posters, think of Anne of Green Gables..FABULOUS association.

I like the name Dana for a guy too.

Rilla of Ingleside!

I like it. In the books, it is short for Marilla.

I thought of Anne of Green Gables, too, but I didn't remember Rilla was one of Anne's daughters... I was thinking of Marilla who was probably the original inspiration.

I mean for Anne/in the story, not the inspiration for your friend's parents.

Like almost everyone else, I thought of Rilla of Ingleside/Anne of Green Gables. Don't like it though, sounds ugly. (Marillia is ugly, too.)

I love the books but I don't like the name. I don't like any "-illa" names I can think of: Priscilla, Camilla, Godzilla. ;)

Yay! Rilla of Ingleside is such a faaaaabulous conclusion to that series. Short for Marilla, as others have said. I like it, but my love of the books may be clouding my judgment.

Same here. And hey! Did you hear about The Blythes Are Quoted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blythes_Are_Quoted) being published? It's technically the ninth book in the series, and was published in an abridged form previously as The Road to Yesterday (which is fantastic, if you haven't read it). I'm way too excited about this, so I apologize if you were already aware, I'm just spreading the LMM looooove.
