Well for me, as long as it's "just" a middle name, it's "acceptable," especially when honoring someone in some way. Make sure the initials spell something okay, though, with that initial in the middle. Sometimes initials in the middle cause trouble. Your last name doesn't start with an X does it? ;-)

Ayla is a name that's popping up a lot lately. I have the feeling its going to be really trendy in the next few years.

As for the name itself, I think its wishy washy. All the letters in it have soft sounds (EYE-la) and so it sounds really incongrous next to a strong name like Jane.

I think Anna Jane, Ava Jane, Anya Jane, or Alma Jane sounds better.

Simon Eugene I like a lot.

Ayla has an A sound, not Eye. It's from a book/movie, Clan of the Cave Bear. It's my fave.

i didn't want to go completely with my grandmothers name, Anna Jane.. since everyone is named Ann in my family. I wanted it to be obvious it's after her. Anya is pretty, I dont like Alma though, sounds old-fashioned.

I've always loved Simon, but was kinda scared to use it. (kids teasing, simon-says)

I just realized Ayla might be pronounced AAAA-la. (like the sound in Bay or Ray). Even so, its still very soft sounding.

i dont like ayla particularly, im not really sure how to pronounce it. but jane is a cute comeback name.

i love simon, but am not wild about eugene of course. i think its fabulous that you want to honor your grandfather though (im a big believer in honoring friends/family with middle names!) so how about simon ernest, since thats his name? i think it sounds better, just my opinion though. simon eugene is a little over the top on the nerd names, sorry but they both are to me. i do love simon though! :)

I wasn't sure if I liked Ayla at first, but it's really starting to grow on me. Jane is awesome- that's my daughter's middle name. I'm wondering if there are any other spellings that would make the name easier for people to pronounce it? Ayla Jane...I think that works. As far as Simon goes- it's nice because it's different but not one of those made up names. Not a huge fan of Eugene but I totally understand you wanting to use it.

I like Ayla Jane, either way it is pronounced. I think Simon is a very cute name, and even though I personally don't like Eugene, like everyone has said, since it has family significance, by all means use it. I think that Simon Eugene sounds good.

It's funny to me that your grandmother is named Anna Jane, because I know a pair of twins named Anna and Jane.
