Which, given all of its spellings and forms, do you think is the least used/popular of the following two?

Lily or Sophie

(I know there's a way to calculate the numbers, but I wanted RL (sort of, ha) opinions.)

Thanks! :)

I know far more little girls named Lily. At the daycare center I work at, there are three (Lilith, Lilliana and Elizabeth who goes by Lily sometimes), all about age 2. I've never met a Sophie.

I think Sophie. I loooove the name Lily but am disappointed to see how popular it seems to be now.

If I'm reading your question right, Lily is MUCH more popular than Sophie. I have 3 friends who have named their daughters Lilly/Lily/Lillian in the past year and have a handful of other people I know or have met recently who have babies with the same name. I loved the name before, but now I would never think of using it because of that reason. But I do love Sophie, and have never met one.

I know one Lily, who is 5. I don't know a single Sophie. (and, btw, I spend crazy amounts of time around 4-8 year olds.)

I know of 3 babies recently born named Lily, and I know of one more person named Lily. I know 1 Sophia/Sophie.

I view them equally as popular. Although, I've known more little girls named Sophie than Lily.

Sophie, but then you've also got to contend with all the Sophias.

I don't think people read this right? or I read it wrong? but I think you asked which spelling of THOSE names is less popular? In that case I have to ask how creative are yo willing to go? Lily probably only plays with the L or two L's and Sophie can be spelled Sofi in spanish.

it depends on age groups, honestly. under five? Lily, definitely.
between, say, 8 and 13? Sophie/Sophia. I babysit a nine year old and she has three Sophias in her class, two of whom she refers two as Sophie (Sophie J. and Sophie W., but Sophie W. is also known as "red-hair Sophie", ahaha).

Sophie/a, for me. I've never met a Lily in RL.

Working in retail, I've heard more Sophies.

Well, some Sophias. I can only recall one Lily and at least four Sophie/as come to mind. But hey, maybe Lily is always just a good little toddler / baby ;)

Sophie - I hear Lily all the time and I almost never hear Sophie

I think Lily must be the name given to 50% of girls born in the UK at the moment.
Lovely name, just way overused nowadays.

I think Sophie is the least used and also less popular.
I prefer it to Lily, though.

I know a bunch of Lilys (under 10 years old) and one Sophie (actually, Sophia, who goes my Sophie) and she's 25.

My childhood best friend's name is Sophie. I've only met one Lily, but she spelled it Lillie.

Hmm... I think I've encountered an equal number of each, but if I had to make a judgement call of which was more common here, I'd say Lily. Marginally.

I think Sophie is more popular. I don't know any Lily's. Sophia is the one that is really overpopular right now, though, IMO.

In my entire life, I've met one Sophie and no Lilys.

Based on what I've seen, Sophie is the less common of the two. I've seen Lilys everywhere lately, while I haven't seen many Sophies (though the variant Sophia seems extremely popular). I'm actually considering Sophie for future use. :)

Well without looking at the SSA website, I'd guess Lily is more popular. I've met quite a few babies named Lily (including my husband's BFF's daughter), but the only Sophie I know is my 20 year old cousin. I think Sophia is much more popular for the younger ones, as there are at least two at my son's daycare.

Ooh where I am I'd say those two are pretty equal! But in terms of kids I've actually encountered, I've met more Lilys recently (aged 4-6)

i think there are way more lily's. i see sophie as a different name from sophia, but if you were asking about sophia, that one definitely trumps lily to me, popularity-wise.

i love both lily and sophie.
