[identity profile] lifesabeach715.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My SO and I have been discussing names a lot lately, though we have no intention of having children in the near future.

I think a lot of his names clash with his Armenian, difficult to pronounce last name. One of the few he has suggested that I like is Natalia. My only issue with it is the lack of nicknames . What nickname would you give a Natalia? Nat or Natty just remind me of the of the bug (gnat) or the beer of poor college students' choice, Natural (Natty) Light. I would hate for one of these to catch on and for her to go by it.

A name I came across this summer that I thought was interesting is Raleigh (pronounced like Raleigh, NC). I thought it was weird at first but it has grown on me. WDYT?

Thanks!

I took care of a gril named Natalia. We called her Talia or Tal (Tal).

I dont mind Raleigh.... don't love it either though.

I would go with Talli or Talia.

Raleigh is ok, but not my style at all.

I don't like Raleigh at all, but Natalia is kind of pretty. Personally, I find the name itself much prettier than any nickname I can think of, so I wouldn't use one.

I like both of those names. Raleigh especially.

as for nicknames for Natalia, what about Ali?

Raliegh is a guilty pleasure of mine, though I don't think I could ever use it. We are not from NC but we live here and my oldest two were born here...as our third will be, most likely.

I like Natalia a lot...others have already given tons of great nn possibilities.

How about Tali (TAH-lee)? I also kinda like Raleigh.

My friend calls her daughter Tally or Talia.

that was a really weird subject line for me because I just moved to Raleigh, NC, and I am currently chatting on aim with my good friend from my previous home city named Natalia :P

I really don't see a problem with Nat or Natty - it sounds nicknamey enough not to think of the bug, I've never even heard of that beer before. I really like the name, and other nicknames could be Tali/Tally or Lia. Or maybe even Ali(I'm prning it like Ollie).

As for Raleigh, as much as I love the city, I am not a fan of it as a name for a person

I'm a Natasha, so I have to advocate for that, but a nickname for Natalia could be Talia instead of Natty. But by the way, even though I have the Nat- sound in my name, nobody has ever called me Natty. Everyone calls me Tasha. Perhaps it wouldn't be an issue with Natalia either.

Raleigh is a meh name for me. I neither love it nor hate it. Natalia, however, I think is cute. I'd most likely go with the nickname Talia.

I know a Natalia and everyone calls her Tal. I like it, actually... I hate Talia but I like Tal. Then again, I prefer Nat or Natty but only 'cause I'm naming my daughter Natalie.

OMG! I didn't even notice that! I would never use Raleigh anyway because my last name begins with R and I don't like the alliteration.

I don't like Raleigh at all. I don't think it has a good sound, and if you're looking for something easy to spell/pronounce, that is not it. People will squint at it and go "Ray-lee? Rally? What?"

Natalia, though, is beautiful. I understand your aversion to Nat. What about Talia/Tali?

My niece is named Talia, nicknamed Lia.
But her baby sister has always called her Tal.

The Natalia I know tends to abbreviate it as Nata.
