What do you think of Ira for a girl?

It's been one of my favorite boy names for a while. When I mentioned it to my friend, they thought of it as more of a girl name. I still like it for a boy, but I think it works with a girl as well.

It's rapidly growing on me as a boy's name, but I don't like it for a girl at all, sorry.

i can see why they thought it'd be a feminine name, since ending in the -a sound is most common with female names, but no, ira is just a boy's name, like ezra.

I don't like it for a girl, and -barely- like it for a boy... =/

I have a huuuuuge crush on Ira Glass, so no, I can only imagine it on nerdy sexy men. It just doesn't work for a girl.

Does not work for a girl at all. It is ok for a boy, but NMS.

I went to school with a girl named Ira, and I doubt anyone besides me knew that it's a male game. It worked fine. It's got a feminine sound and it's not nearly as jarring as meeting, say, a female Tyler or Kyle or something would be. At least for me.

Ira is definitely a boy's name. I really don't like the trend of using boy's names for girls. There are thousands of beautiful female names. Why use a male name instead?

Nah, Ira is a boy's name and should stay that way.

But Eira is a girl's name and it's pronounced the same. I think it's beautiful.

I thought Eira was pronounced EE-rah, but I'm pronouncing Ira as EYE-rah.
Which one is it?

Depending on where in Wales you are, Eira is pronounced EYE-ra (same as Ira) or AY-ra.

I love it as a boy's name. One of my favorite childhood books is Ira Sleeps Over. - about a boy sleeping at his friends house for the first time.

Ira, unfortunately, is solidly a boy's name, in my opinion.

What about Ida?

It's one of my favorite boy's names, so I'm not really a fan of it on a girl...but I suppose it could work.

Before I knew it was a male name, I thought it was female because it ended in "a". Now I can't picture it on anyone but elderly Jewish men.
