[identity profile] bitty1721.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I would like to have some help with pronouncing and help picking out a name for one of my story characters. The woman is in her late 50s and she is an reincarnation of Aphrodite so I am looking for the right name for her. The first name I had in mind was:

Catheña or Cat. The name means the Mohave goddess of love and I thought it was fitting but I don't know how to pronounce it. Any help there?

I would also like to see your opinions on these other names, just in case I change my mind.

Edit: I've decided to go with the polls and picked Aine. It's a great name I think.

[Poll #1467250]

Thank you so much for your time!

I would probably pronounce it ca-fee-na.

Aine is going to be the name of this baby if it turns out to be a girl. I absolutely love it. We're caving and spelling it Anya though (I'm pretty sure) I just really don't want people going 'Ain? Eye-nee?' I wish I lived in a gaelic speaking country... lol

Catheña, if it is pronounced like one would a Spanish Ñ then it'd be like Cuh-theh-gna (and that gna would be like the gne in champagne, sort of...)

You could also go with Esther (It's actually a form of Ishtar, a Babylonian goddess of love who was very similar to Aphrodite). It depends if you want the name to sound "normal" or a little bit out there. My favourites from your list are Freya, Ceri, and Aine.

Also, your story sounds awesome. :)

I suppose Catheña would be pronounced like Kah-then-ya, or something like that. I've never heard it before though, so I can't be 100% sure!

I like Aine =)

I'm actually really interested in the results of this poll because I'm starting to work on a project with reincarnations of Greek gods, and I need new names for them all too. I'm pretty sure Aphrodite is among the ones I'm keeping young and good-looking, so she'd probably have a different name than somebody in their 50s. But I just found it so interesting to see this post come up when I'm working on the same idea, at least.

To be honest? I'd go with something very plain - exotic 'goddessy' names are rather cliched... but that's JMO.
