[identity profile] schexyschteve.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
A girl from Facebook just posted a photo album of her new niece, Kateri Elizabeth. WDYT?

I have no idea how to prn. Kateri (I'd say kuh terr ee), but I like Elizabeth.

I'm thinking Kay Terry- almost as if it's 2 names that were merged
I could be wrong- either way- not crazy about it

I had a student names Katerie and it was Kah-tear-ee. Didn't much like it and neither did she. She just went by Kat.

I look at it, and I think I'd say something like kah-tear-ee. Kind of rhyming with hairy. But however it's pronounced, I don't like it, and I hate Elizabeth.

My aunt's name is Kateri, but she's French Canadian so I'm not really sure how you'd pronounce it in terms of an English speaking name. In French it's kaht-ree or something (I'm no good at writing out pronunciations, especially in French. She's named after Kateri Tekakwitha.

Kateri is the Mohawk form of Catherine, and it's also the name of a saint (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kateri_Tekakwitha). I think it's pronounced Kah-tur-ee, and I think it's pretty.

I'd pronounce it kat-er-ree - like Katerina without the -na.

At first I thought Kate-uh-ree. But maybe it's Kuh-Terry? That poor kid will have to explain how to pronounce it her WHOLE life.
