What do you think of the name Charlotte, with the nickname Charlie?

It's the name of recently deceased family friend, and I am seriously considering it as a name for my baby-in-utero, due in February 2010. (The family friend was born in the 1920's and was not nicknamed Charlie.)

ETA: Forgot to add that Charlotte/Charlie's older sister is named Ruby. I picture calling to them, "Ruby! Charlotte (or Charlie)! Time for dinner!" :)

WDYT of Ruby and Charlotte together?

yes, it's wonderful, even more so with the reason you've provided.

Charlotte is a wonderful, beautiful, feminine name. I'm sorry, but why ruin it with the nickname Charlie? I've always seen that as a boys' name.

I know perfectly well of girls called Charlie, i'm just saying I have no idea why you'd want to ruin a perfectly good name with that nickname x]

Charlie is a freaking cute nickname for a little girl, IMO.

Charlotte's very nice, but I'm sorry, I hate the nickname Charlie on a girl.

I love the name Charlotte and it's on my list. My nickname preference is Char, though (pr. Shar).

I love the name Charlotte so much, and the nickname Charlie. I'm due with a baby girl in one week and I would have definitely named her that if my sister Franki didn't have dibs on it already. She's planning feminine names with boy-ish nicknames for all her potential daughters.

Ruby and Charlotte go well together. Older and less used, but not something you can only picture on an old lady:)

Can't say I have an opinion on Charlie as a nickname, though. I do think of a little boy, like, you name your son Charles and as a young child you call him Charlie until he grows up and wants a grown up name, ya know? But I've also felt that several boy names can be quite charming on a girl.

I think Charlotte is gorgeous, and a sibset of Charlotte and Ruby is so cute! Will admit that I can't stand Charlie, though, on a girl OR a boy. Just... never been a fan. (And now there's the whole Charlie the unicorn thing too.)

It's a silly little set of flash videos about a unicorn named Charlie - I couldn't get through my last year of high school without hearing "Let's go to Candy Mountain, Charlie?" or "It's a maaaaaagical leopluridon, Charlie" at least once a day. Of course, my friends are weird, and I would imagine it's not a hugely well-known reference, but it's all I can think of and I would be tempted to crack jokes about that stuff if I met a Charlie, personally. (I tend to have really weird associations with names though, so....)

oh my gods... I did the stupid little candy land unicorn voice SO good. It was freaky and scary how good my voice can go there... hell sometimes I still say 'we're going to candy land' to people that are annoying and I don't want them tagging along xD most people get it and I live in Venezuela (though to be fair most of my friends speak fluent english)

I love Charlotte, but I don't like the nickname Charlie. Charlotte and Ruby are two of my favorite names, and I think they sound great together.

I love it. That's my second favorite girl name with that same nickname. My husband on the other hand not too fond of it lol.

I love the sibset Ruby and Charlotte. I'm mostly indifferent to Charlie, although seeing as I like the nn Char-lotte (with the CH sound like in chips), I'd probably wind up with it the long way around.

Charlotte is growing on me; I think it's soft and feminine. I'm not feeling the nickname Charlie, however, as this always makes me think of a mischievous boy.

I like them as a sibset. I have a Charlotte :-) We don't use nicknames, but if we did, I would use Lottie as hers.

How is it no one's mentioned the nickname Lottie yet? It was very popular for Charlottes in the "olden" days.

Either way, both are beautiful names.
