which spelling do you prefer -- Alison or Allison?

ETA: Maitlynn isn't a real name, right? I know someone who says she's going to name her baby that, and I think it's awful :(

Alison.

I've heard Maitland before, but never Maitlynn. It sounds weird, I don't like it.

Allison. The double L looks more complete.

Maitland is a real name. Maitlynn looks like a bastardized version of Caitlin.

Agreed, Alison doesn't look complete at all to me.

Alison is actually the female version, Allison used to be the male version (pre-1960). I just read this actually. And every Alison I ever knew was just one 'l'. Both are female names now, however. : )

To me, Alison looks like it would be the male name. Names are funny things.

I agree actually, you would have thought it was the other way around. : )

Alison and any variant was never a male name. It was a diminutive for Alice used by the Normans (-on was one of their diminutive endings, also seen in Marion).

I've seen a couple Maitlin/Maitlynns before, so... yeah?

I prefer the one L, but that's because one of my best friends is named that, and it looks odd otherwise, lol.

I live in a town called Maitland, lol.

Alison. And Maitlynn is probably a different spelling of a surname like Matlin or something.

I was born in Maitland.

I used to prefer Alison because "lli" was just too many vertical letters in a row, but lately I think I prefer Allison because it seems more feminine.

I don't know about Maitlynn, but Maitland is a surname.

Allison because it's my name and I'm biased. I think it just looks prettier. ;)

Just a fun fact, I used to have a friend who spelled her's "Alicynne," it was on her birth certificate that way. :/

I prefer the spelling Alison because that's how the Elvis Costello song is spelled. Although that name is completely ruined for me as some of my cousins were sexually molested for years by a babysitter named Alison. Also my best friend in Elementary school was named Allison. She later turned on me and ended up being a raving bitch.

Allison. Alison. Allison. Alison. Allison.
Yea. Alison.

Maitlynn? Pronounced like Caitlin with an M? D:

I can't help you because I have 3 good friends and a cousin who are Alison, Allison, and 2 Allysons. Looking at them now, I think I prefer Alison.

My name's Alison, so guess which I prefer. :P

Honestly, I do like Alison best, objectively speaking (though I have to admit, it's a bit difficult for me to be objective about my own name). It is the original.

I like Alison but I'd never use it because people would probably spell it "Allison" all the time.

Maitlynn is just awful.

Allison.

Maitlynn is terrible, and even worse for a boy.

Allison. It just looks more complete to me. Same reason I prefer Elliot and Phillip.

Maitlynn (Maitland I was spelling it like this as well) and Alison were both on our lists. I had tons of people tell me Maitland sounded like a made up name and not to use it. : ( Then again, I love Madigan and that I DID make up. Haha. XD I think Maitlynn is so pretty!

And Maitlynn is the sort of name you give your crockpot...

Allison makes me want to pronounce it as it's spelt - ALL-i-son.

Maitlynn is hideous.
