Yay for butchering names!

I work at Dairy Queen, and today I happened to see two interesting names on cake orders:

Chilo and Jewelia.

I was looking at Chilo going ... 'Chi-lo? WTF?' Then I thought about Shiloh .. and I was like ... no way. But yes, the mom came in and when she got the cake, she pronounced the name with an 'sh' sound.

For Jewelia, I just saw the cake order, but I'm assuming it's a butchering of the name Julia. As a Julianne, it made me do a severe D: face. I'm just hoping that it's a spelling some little kid wants, and not how the name is actually spelled.

Ugh. Chilo is just awful. My partner and I plan on using Shiloh when we have kids (as a middle name) so that especially looks bad to me.

Jewelia doesn't work for me. I know that it would be pronounced similarly to Julia but I keep seeing "Jew-ELL-ee-uh".

I know what you mean! Some people call me Jules (well, that's how I would spell it) but then they spell it like Jewels. Makes no sense to me. But I digress :P

Haha yeah. Even though I know Jules and Jewels are pretty much pronounced the same, I just can't see them the same when they're in a name if that makes any sense.

Chilo is funny to me, because it's the word for "kilo" in italian (pronounced as kilo too).

Jewelia makes me want to read it Jew-EL-ee-ah, but I guess you're right that it's "Julia"

haha. People spell my name Jewlia sometimes as a joke...cuz I'm Julia and Jewish...but, that's just awful as a real name

Oh god. As a Julia I am seriously horrified by the spelling of that name! That's just so unbelievably gross and tacky! :(
