Brothers Elijah and Elisha  (prn like EH-LEE-SHA). Not a fan.

I've only ever known Elishas who were female. It's also a little too matchy ELI - ah sound for me personally. But I love Elijah.

Eli Manning's first name is actually Elisha, lol. but yes, I agree on the matchy-ness. and I prefer just plain old Eli, myself.

And that's why he goes by Eli and has to play football to prove he's not a girly man.

lmao. This.

Yeah, I've known Elishas who were female, too. At least three that I can remember. I always think of it as a variation of Alicia.

It would be a world of confusion! I'm assuming it's for the old testament prophets which every kid gets mixed up in Sunday School.

Geez. And someone got on me when I would have named a second son Elliott when my first is named Elijah.

Poor Elisha...

[identity profile] laminy.livejournal.com 2009-09-19 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Way, way too close. That's how I've seen it pronounced on girls, but when I see it's on boys, it's like eh-lie-sha, which really isn't that far from eh-lie-jah.

It's going to be quite confusing for them growing up! I like Elijah the best out of the two, but probably because I'm used to seeing Elisha on a girl.

Also, Elijah & Elisha were prophet buddies in the bible. After Elijah was taking in a flaming chariot to heaven, Elisha took over for him.

I don't really like the names anyway, but together, they're a pretty horrific match.

I've never heard Elisha for a a boy pronounced like that. I like Eh-LY-shah.

It just makes me think of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm

I love the names Elijah and Elisha - I actually prefer Elisha (pronounced Ee-LIE-sha) but the partner vetoed it because he would think too many people would pronounce it A-lee-sha, and that it was close to a girls' name. I also have a little cousin named Elijah, so too close.

I love the name Elijah. Elisha is okay, but only on a girl. Whether on a boy or a girl, those names should not be in a sibset together.
