What do you think of Luna? I like the name a lot, but it almost seems to me like it would sound weird on an actual person. Too out there, and I like some fantastical names! I don't know what it is. I feel like it would sound like I was naming my child after Luna Lovegood or after the cat from Sailor Moon.

I've always kind of loved it, actually. the first time I ever saw it was on the credits of a TV show for a producer or something, so it has actually been used on a person :)

I'd say it's the type of name you pair up with a nice, normal middle name like Elizabeth or Catherine, though.

I would definitely think of Luna Lovegood, but as contradictory as this sounds, she has normalized the name somewhat, like Hermione did for her name, bringing it into the realm of possibility, though not popularity. I kind of like the name, myself, but it would let her in for an awful lot of teasing.

I would automatically assume her parents were hippies.

Yes, crazy whacked out hippies. Similar to the parents of my aunt's friend, April May June.

oh. oh no.

I like it.

That's my Aussie puppy's name. I paired it with Belle (Luna Belle). I like it (obviously lol).

;_; one of the kitties I birthed was named LunaBelle by the girl who adopted her!!

I like it but it definitely gives of hippie-vibes or maybe even goth-vibes for me. I don't know the first thing about Harry Potter (I had to look up "Luna Lovegood" to even know that it was a Harry Potter reference!) or Sailor Moon so it didn't have that connotation for me.
That said, I really like the name but would probably only use it on a pet.

I like the name, but being a Sailor Moon fan, I do immediately think of the kitty ^^

[identity profile] roseofjuly.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't, even though I'm a huge fan, but after being reminded of it it was a positive association. Luna was a graceful, responsible, powerful kitty :D

I immediately thought Luna Lovegood, but that's not all bad. She's pretty awesome! But I can see how the assumption would get annoying. I don't know what I actually think about the name. It's not my style, so I'd never use it.

I thought it was weird at first too, but I named my baby Luna. It doesn't seem as weird anymore. Also no one brings up Luna Lovegood or the cat, I'm kind of surprised.

i love it!

I love the name Luna, and it took me a minute before I made the association with Sailor Moon, and I did not at all associate it with Harry Potter. And I'm a huge fan of both, so that's saying a lot. It's a bona fide name in it's own right, and just because some television characters have the name doesn't mean you shouldn't use it.

It's lovely, and pretty uncommon. I think it would be a striking name on a little girl and on a woman.
