Bad names in Spanish

The craziness of names isnt limited to English only...

this past week on the news here in Mexico I have seen the following crazy names-

Natividad Blanca = White Christmas
Armando Paredes = Building Walls

just thought I'd share.. I'll keep my eyes open for more.

Oh, and while I am posting... here is a list of the names of all my real life friends and acquantinces (sorry spelling, but I'm sleepy) that have had babies this year.

The background to quetzcoatl is that it is a canadian expat couple living in Mexico.. they probably wanted to give the baby a name that represented the fact that they met and fell in love in with each other in Mexico. idk.

Armando means "building"..? I thought it was the Spanish version of Herman, which, to my knowledge, doesn't mean "building".

It could indeed be the Spanish version of "Herman".. that I didn't know! However, the Spanish infinitive verb "armar" means to put together, or "to arm" something. The present progressive is "armando", thus putting together walls.. or better translated into English as building walls. ;)

maybe it would be similiar to something like, "Herman Isadore" Her man is a door. Something silly like that.

I think I made a mistake with Caramina. I think the baby's name is Carmina. ANd it is probably spelled Karmina.

Im ok with it bc Im of the philosophy that as long as the kid gets a decent first name perhaps the middle name can be something more creative or one of our guilty pleasure names as I think they're called here in this comm.

That's a good point and I do agree with you. I just still have to feel sorry for a girl named Quetzalcoatl, even if it is a middle name!
