I heard the name Calliope on One Tree Hill the other day, and it's been in my head since then. WDYT? Also, what are some nicknames for it other than Callie?

I like it but would never actually use it for a child. It's actually the name of one of the Greek Muses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calliope

I doubt it. I think it's too "out there" for most people (no offense, I personally like it a lot). I think some people would be put off since it stems from Greek mythology.

I don't think it will. It was mentioned in passing on TV. Plus, a character on Grey's Anatomy is named Calliope (goes by Callie) and it hasn't caught on yet

I know a lot of people like the name, but every time I hear it my mind immediately goes to the musical instrument. So, to me it would be along the same lines as naming a baby Piano or Flute.

Isn't there a carnival ride called the Calliope?

It's out wild-and-wacky for my taste, plus she'd have to deal with constant misspellings and mispronunciations, so that puts it right out of consideration for me. It is pretty in its own way, though.

The only nickname I can see other than Cal/Callie might be Lio (LYE-oh)?
