I heard the name Calliope on One Tree Hill the other day, and it's been in my head since then. WDYT? Also, what are some nicknames for it other than Callie?

Oh my God. That has been my girl name since I was like 5. Please tell me it's not going to become popular.

I doubt it. I think it's too "out there" for most people (no offense, I personally like it a lot). I think some people would be put off since it stems from Greek mythology.

I like it but would never actually use it for a child. It's actually the name of one of the Greek Muses: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calliope

I like how it looks, but not how it sounds.

I'd like it if it weren't for that skanky-ass ho who ruined Grey's Anatomy.

(Sorry, guys, I'm very opinionated when it comes to Grey's.)

I love it. It's quirky without being completely insane.

I've always kind of liked this name.

I know a lot of people like the name, but every time I hear it my mind immediately goes to the musical instrument. So, to me it would be along the same lines as naming a baby Piano or Flute.

I know this awesome old greek woman named Kalliope (pretty sure that's the correct spelling), who goes by the nickname Poppy :D

Isn't there a carnival ride called the Calliope?

It's out wild-and-wacky for my taste, plus she'd have to deal with constant misspellings and mispronunciations, so that puts it right out of consideration for me. It is pretty in its own way, though.

The only nickname I can see other than Cal/Callie might be Lio (LYE-oh)?

Calliope is also the main character in Middlesex, one of my favorite books.
