I was flipping through People magazine today and opened to a page with Scarlett Johannsen. They showed a picture of her birthday party invitation. She was having it with a friend named Gillian so it said "Scarlett and Gillian's birthday". I've never been too crazy about either name but for some reason Scarlett and Gillian just sounded so perfect together. If I ever have twin girls I think that would be such a cute combination! Opinions? Also, does anyone know what the name Gillian means?

Here's what my book says:

Gillian (f) English form of Juliana. Common name in Britain in the Middle Ages, as Giliana, etc.

There's some other stuff about different variations but it never says there's any MEANING... so I don't know.

I really like both of those names. Of course, being a Gone With the Wind fan, I would. Scarlett Johannsen is also a wonderful actress.

Well ... Juliana means "soft-haired." So I'm guessing the meaning for Gillian would be the same. Not positive, though.

They're both beautiful names in my opinion. :)

Gillian is an alternative spelling of "jillian" and its latin and means " youthful" as does Juliana

My book ("The Best Baby Name Book in the whole wide world" by Bruce & Vicki Lansky copyright 1982 - loool at how old it is, it was my mom's when i was born) has Gillian as a Latin name meaning "young, downy-haired child."

I love the name Scarlett, and my best friend's name is Jillian, and I think the two go together well. :D
