How would you prefer to spell the name Zoe? I've seen Zoe (obviously) ,Zoey, Zoie and Zooey. I like the sound of the name, but i'm not sure how i'd like to spell it. (though I am pretty against the Zooey one.)

Also, any good middle name ideas for Zoe? I'm thinking Zoe Lucia...

Zoe, then Zoey. I wouldn't even consider the other ones.

I like Zoe.

And middle names:
Jane
Linnea
Luca
Michelle
Racine

I would have to think anyone that would name their kids Zoie or Zooey WANTS their child to be teased in school and snickered at throughout life. It doesn't even look like a name!

I'm going to be honest and had no idea, for a long time, that Zoe was the same as Zoey. I'd just never seen them spelled out, only said. Kind of like Chloe, I had no idea what the word was, but knew the name. Sad, I know.

That said, either or Zoe or Zoey. It's a cute name.

Zooey looks like it would be pronounced Zoo-ee, ick.

[identity profile] so-there.livejournal.com 2009-09-15 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
it is. it's not even the same name.

[identity profile] juniorfan29.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
I prefer Zoe. Zoey is an okay alternative. The other ones I hate. Zoie I want to pronounce Zoy (rhymes with soy) and Zooey I want to pronounce like Zoo-ee.

I like Zoë or Zoey.
I think it could work with either a long or a short middle name - I like Zoë Jane and Zoë Victoria. Lucia works nicely too. :)

I prefer Zoe.

[identity profile] nothingtolose19.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 11:01 am (UTC)(link)
I know that most people prefer it without the y, but I prefer it with. I don't know why, it just looks more complete to me. I don't mind the Zoe spelling, however. Just going to agree with everyone else that the other two are not very good options at all. Zooey, especially, makes me want to pronounce it like Zoo-ey.

Zoe is the only legit version. The others are "nicknames", if you will (since they sound the same, there's not much point in a nickname)
Some places spell it with an umlaut (the two dots, that my keyboard can't produce) on the final -e and other places, like Italy sometimes, as Zoé and pronounce it Zoh-EH with a hard Z.

My fave combo is Zoe Rebecca or Zoe Rachel.
One of Hanson's sisters is named Zoe Genevieve and Lenny Kravitz's daughter is Zoe Isabella.

I have seen Zoe spelled Xoe...i don't really like it at all I think it looks kind of tacky. I like Zoe Ella

[identity profile] thellamaqueen.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Zoe is the only acceptable way to spell it (preferably with the umlauts, but I don't know how to make them!).
My cousin as a daughter named Zoe Kayla and I have always loved her name. According to my cousin and her husband, in Greek the name means "beautiful life"... I can't verify that, though. :P

[identity profile] mrssubee.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it just means 'life' but Kayla may mean beautiful

[identity profile] thellamaqueen.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
that's what I meant. I realized after I made the comment that it might not have been clear... but I meant that "Zoe Kayla" means "beautiful life".

Only Zoe. Adding a y or an extra o is pointless, the name doesn't need it.

alternate point of view

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2009-09-15 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, I always assumed the name was spelled Zoey before I saw it written anywhere. To me, it makes sense because Zoe/Joe and Zoey/Joey should work the same. It doesn't make sense to me that Zoe and Joey would rhyme.

[identity profile] mrssubee.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the name Zoe (we named our dog that- so no children of ours will have that name
my husband suggested(jokingly) naming a daughter after our dogs- Zoe Charlotte
when I was about 8 months pregnant and loved the name- but, not renaming the dogs, so
the one thing I don't get is is it pronounced Zo-ee(2 syllables) or just zo(1 syllable)- we say 2 syllables- but, many people will just call her Zoe-1 syllable
it's almost like you need that y at the end to let people know how to say it

[identity profile] kilobites.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd spelled it Zoë but Zoe is fine too. I don't much like the name, but the only spellings I really HATE are Zooey and Zoie.

[identity profile] lorielizabeth.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I prefer Zoey, Zoey Elspeth.

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I like that combo! I've been a fan of Elspeth ever since I met a girl with that name in college. It sounds very old-fashioned and British, in a good way! :)

[identity profile] skudge.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Zoey is my favorite, I hate Zooey, Zoe looks like it rhymes with Toe (even though I know it's the "proper" spelling...), and I used to dislike Zoie, but then a lovely little store called Zoie opened up near my home, so it kind of grew on me.

For middle names, Claire immediately comes to mind.

[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com 2009-09-13 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd use Zoe. That's how we would have spelled my dog's name--except when my dad filled out her registration papers, he spelled it Zoey, and that's what she became. Zoey is tolerable, but I prefer Zoe (with or without the umlaut). Zoie and Zooey hurt my eyes.

[identity profile] murderprotocol.livejournal.com 2009-09-14 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
I used to prefer Zoey, but now I like Zoe the best, followed by Zoey. It's funny, though; the very first I met and only I've ever known spelt her name Zoie. I dislike that spelling because of her.

Oh, and I forgot to mention I like the combination Zoe Rhian (ree-AHN), but that's because it has special meaning to me.

Zoe, then Zoey, but not the other ones.

I'm not a huge fan of Zoe, but I absolutely LOVE Zoe Lucia! Really, LOVE in all caps! ;) Nice choice!

[identity profile] kitchen-poet.livejournal.com 2009-09-14 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, and I know two people with daughters named Zoe. The first is Zoe Echo, which isn't my style, and the second is Zoe Imogene who was almost named Zoe Iris, and I love both combos. Zoe Lucia still takes the cake.

[identity profile] freezemyazaleas.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I like Zoë, Zoey, and Zoe in that order. I only like Zooey because of Zooey Deschanel. I hate Zoie; it looks like it should be pronounced "Zwah".

[identity profile] freezemyazaleas.livejournal.com 2009-09-16 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
Also, middle name ideas. I know people named Zoë Rose (age 6) and Zoe Sophia (age 23).

[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com 2009-09-17 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
the ONLY one i like is zoe.

to me, zooey should be pronounced zoo-ee

my niece is zoe arabella.

[identity profile] roseofjuly.livejournal.com 2009-09-20 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
I always want to pronounce Zooey Deschanel's name "zoo-ee."

I only like Zoe. Zoe Lucia is pretty.
