ugh

My cousin and her family are in town over the holiday weekend, and she announced her pregnancy to the rest of us. She's having a girl due in January... And the name they have chosen is

Ehyana Sophia

EW. Ayana wouldn't have been so bad, but she spelled it for me... This is the first kreeaytiv spelling in the whole extended family too. The rest of their family is:

Carol Jeannine (my cousin, age 30)
Jason (her husband, age 31)
Skylar Lee (age 6)
Isabelle Faith (age 2)

That poor child is going to be spelling that everyday for her entire life.

And pronouncing it for other people.

Until you gave the other spelling, I didn't even know how to pronounce it!

Is Ehyana supposed to sound like Ayana? It's very different to me!
And I do want to aspirate that h, yes.

But you're still in time to save your second-level little cousin: try to get the mother to switch to Sophia..and no one will be hurt! LOL

I thought it was Eh-yana. Poor kid is going to have to pronounce/spell it for others all the time. :(
Maybe someone can/will talk her out of it before then...
