I am 28 weeks pregnant with my 2nd child and 1st boy.
The husband & I are pretty much 100% settled on the name for him: Emmett Edward
Our last name is Kelly, so his initials will be EEK, which I have thought about, but I've ultimately decided it won't be that big of a deal.
His big sister is named Elizabeth Malie (Malie comes from her godmother's middle name), and while I wasn't intentionally going for an "E" trend, I kind of like it. Should we have any more children, I doubt they will have an "E" name.
Oh, and FYI, my name is Jessica Elizabeth and my hubby's name is Matthew Edward.
The reasoning behind the names:
Emmett is my grandfather's middle name, and my grandfather was very, very special to me. He was more like a father to me, and I lost him when I was 14 to a stroke. :( His first name was Harry, which I don't much like, plus my dad is Harry, Jr., and I don't much like my dad LOL so I didn't really want to feel like I was honoring my dad, y'know?
Edward is the middle name that is given to every 1st born Kelly male in my hubby's family, and I like the name well enough to go along with the tradition.
HOWEVER. I know that these names are going to come off to people as having come from thefailtasticever-popular Twilight series, which I loathe. I have already had a couple of comments about the name at a recent baby shower ("Oh, you must REALLY love Twilight, huh" "Actually, no, I despise it..."). :/
So... what do you all think of the name? Hate it? Like it?
Also, what do you think I should say in combat to the comments I'm likely to continue getting in regards to his name?
EDIT: Thanks for your comments & reassurance, everyone. It is greatly appreciated! :D

It's a lovely name with a lovely history, he'll be proud to carry it. If anyone mentions the T-novel, just answer, "Twilight? What does my son's name have to do with early evening?"

Date: 2009-09-07 02:02 pm (UTC)Honestly, if you get a Twilight comment, just politely say, "No, he was not named after Twilight." Or, "No, I'm not personally a fan of Twilight." If they keep arguing, they're mentally unhinged, so don't worry about it. I don't see that there's any need to combat anything.

Date: 2009-09-07 02:13 pm (UTC)Just kidding. I'd just tell them it's a family name. THEN I'd punch them.
Seriously, though, it's a great name. People will forget about that series once it's not constantly being shoved in our faces, and the other school children won't be teasing him over any imagined connections, so I don't think it will be a long-term problem, just a current annoyance.

Date: 2009-09-07 03:51 pm (UTC)I don't really know the Twilight series (Vampires=not sexy for me), is there another name you mentioned that suggests a theme I missed?
I'm not a huge fan of the name Emmett but since you're trying to honor someone very important to you, I don't even think you need to ask our opinions ;) You got your name picked out! Yeah, the EEK thing might be a little weird (maybe wanna throw a second middle name in there?) but also, it's not that big a deal. I think it's a fine name. I like Elizabeth too

Date: 2009-09-07 03:59 pm (UTC)Personally, I really like the name and think the personal meaning to you should outweigh a passing pop culture fad. You don't have to explain anything to anyone...if they ask about the Twilight connection, just tell them that wasn't your intention.
