Boy name problems...

Ok, so we are expecting our third child in January. We currently have a boy(3) and a girl (16 months). We always have trouble with boy names. I like seldom used Bible names for boys, but not Bible names for girls because there are so few. We ended up naming our son Micah and our daughter Allison (Allie).
Now we are expecting another boy and have no idea what to name him. On top of the fact that we aren't very inspired by our short list of Bible boy names that we half-way agree on, there is the addition of another boy name that for some reason has been on my mind since the second I was told it was a boy.... Max. I think the reason I thougth of it was that there is a popular tv show we like that is about a family with three children, an older boy, a middle girl and a younger boy... the younger boy's name is Max. After walking out of the ultrasound room and into the next room for blood tests, I sat in the chair and was looking at a bulletin board in front of me with only one thing on it- a child's handprint on a piece of paper with a name above it, guess what it was? yup... Max.
Before that day I don't think I would have ever had that name on my list, but I came home and told my hubby and amazingly enough, he kind of liked it, but like me isn't sure. In my mind, despite trying out other names, every time I think of the baby in my tummy I think of him as Max. Not sure I can picture having a kid named that though. Still, never have known a Max in my life, so I guess that is why I am open to it. Plus it is certainly a friendly name. Our names are Misty and Joe
On top of all that, there is the drama that happened with naming our daughter. When we were about this far with her, we chose the name Zoey Violet... then there was a big deal where my MIL ruined it for me and then about two weeks before she was born we changed her name to Allison Snow (Snow is my mom's maiden name) Anyway, we loved the name we ended up with and cannot imagine the name Zoey on her at all. So that makes me even more hesistant to go with Max just because it is stuck in my head right now.
Sigh! So I know that was a long story but here is where I ask advice...
For one thing, if we go with Max, we can't seem to work out a middle that works because our last name is one of those three syllable names that starts with Mc. Also, Not sure we like Maximillian... and do not like Maxim or Maximus or Maxwell at all. Might just go with plain old Max.
Our other two children have somewhat odd middles... Micah's is his daddy's middle name which is Venis (sounds like the city)

On the other hand, if we go with a Bible name, our only thought right now is Noah. I like Elijah, but hubby won't agree to it. I also love Luke but he won't get with me on that one either. We also like Levi a little bit. I like Linus too (Yes a Bible name) but nobody on earth seems to agree with me on that one! lol
 
Any help or advice would be great. One hindrance for us is that we have a lot of Christian friends and fellow church members who are also taking up all the less used Bible names with their kids. We already have friends with - Silas, Josiah, Ezra... we even know of a Malachi.

I don't really like the names that Max comes from either, though I have a friend Marcus who only ever goes by Max. I met him in elementary school, and made it to grade 11 before finding out that it was Marcus, and not something like Maxwell. I think Max works really well just on its own, though. Maybe the middle for Max could be a Bible name. I consider Linus to be 'somewhat odd', but that's just me.

But I also think that you've got quite a way to go before the baby comes. Some people still don't know the week before they have a kid, let alone four months beforehand. I wouldn't worry that much, and just see what other names come up along the way, and what you feel when you actually meet him.

Yes, we are big 'Wizards' fans. Was hoping nobody would know! lol It is cheesy but I keep thinking of how we will have a boy/girl/boy situation like they do.

and, it's not just you... everyone thinks Linus is odd but me. I think of the Bogart character in the old movie "Sabrina" instead of the kid on Charlie Brown.

I really like Max. I had a friend named Max when I was little and I always wanted to be a boy so I could be named Max too (when I was five). I think its a simple, friendly, easy going name.

So do you want to follow the trend and name your child an odd less used bible name? That's where I'm a little confused on...does it HAVE to be a bible name? Does it HAVE to be like your friends?

I would suggest Max Levi Mc-.

I think when a name is right, it just sticks, and you can't think of anything else. If we have a boy, it will be Elliott, that name was picked when I was pregnant with my second, but it was a girl, but Elliott still stands. I couldn't see having a son with any other name. I've always thought whatever calls to you is more important than a trend. I mean, if all your Christian friends were naming their kids with Christian names that start with J or M only, would you feel as compelled to follow along? I dunno, I just think it seems like a high school clique that you're trying to impress. Name your baby what makes you happy, not what your friends approve of. If I followed for approval like that our girl name would be Kristine as we have a lot of pressure from my SIL to NOT name a girl Collette because she personally hates the name, and to instead name the baby after herself. And when I was pregnant with my first I had to have the name Elijah, but his father didn't like it because it was of Jewish origin and he was catholic and I'm an athiest. True I get asked CONSTANTLY about church, but it doesn't bother me, I love the name and that's all that matters.

I think what the OP was saying was that she likes Biblical names for boys but a lot of them she can't use because friends have used them not that she wanted to use a Biblical name because friends had used them.

Max works well on its own, I think. Not all short names have to be short for something, right? :)

Max Levi sounds nice. And to clarify, I do not like Bible names because it is the trend or because my friends do, I was just saying that many of our friends have already taken most of the names that are just what I like. I would like to not take a name that one of my friends just named their baby last year.
I chose Micah because I liked it and it was a great Bible name, not common like Joshua or Daniel or David... and I didn't know any other Micah's. I hoped to have another Bible name because I like them and because it would go well with Micah. But because we have Allie I think that Max wouldn't stand out so bad. Amos is nice but makes me think of 'Amos and Andy'.

Yes, Elijah is really nice, I am liking it more and more. I tried to bump it up to the top of the list despite that he said long ago he wouldn't use it. lol Can't hurt to try. I did the same with Luke.

I don't mind Max but I don't like alliteration in sib-sets... Micah and Max. However I don't HATE it. And Max is a legit name.

I was very good friends with a Max... pretty sure it was Maxwell. I'd go with a full name just because I like full names. I like Maximillian.

However, I think Allison and Micah are fabulous names. I don't know biblical names, but I really like Tobias and Silas (as listed above). I also like Linus. Maximillian Linus sounds pretty wierd though.

Yes, Ezra is an awesome name, but a friend has had a baby boy and named him Ezra just recently. The others, well, maybe we have a differen't Bible, I have never seen Victor or Alexander in mine, maybe not even Ira. And Abraham just is too old man sounding for us.
