What do you all think of the name Flynn for a boy? I don't know anyone with that name, except as a last name, and it is my husband's grandmother's maiden surname. It's not even listed on the name voyager, but is on the namipedia as a surname.

That was my original plan, actually, lol.

I wanted to name my baby "Jonathan Flynn P********", but he would go by Jonny Flynn, which is the name of really great Syracuse basketball player (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Flynn), and also the name of the baby's great-great grandfather.

Lately, though, I am loving Flynn all by itself. I guess I could just use Flynn as his nickname and still name him Jonathan Flynn P******** officially...

I know people with the first name Flynn, but I only see it as a surname. Specifically, Errol Flynn. "In like Flynn" was the first thing I thought when I saw it, and that's really not a good connection to me.

I had never before heard of Errol Flynn, or the movie or expression "In like Flynn". Hmmm. Kind of funny stuff, but it doesn't really change my feelings about the name. Thanks for commenting, though, I wouldn't have known about this stuff otherwise. :)

I could never use it, because then my son's name would be Flynn Flynn :P

But I am partial to it anyway (and MUCH better than Finn, which seems to be all the rage these days)

In my baby name book it means "son of the red-haired man"

I love the meaning of Flynn! My daughter (who has red hair), is named Ruby, which was decided before we knew her hair color. Now I like the idea of 2 red-heads with red names. :)

Personally, I love the name. I think it has tons of character but is short and simple. It doesn't fit our usual style, but if I were you and had the excuse of a maiden name in the family being Flynn I would totally go for it! In general I usually don't care for making a name a middle if you plan to use it as the main name, but if that works for you!
