Look at the name Marcia. Just look at it. Pronounce it in your head.

Now, fill out this poll:

[Poll #1447354]

I've noticed a lot of ethnic folks pronounce it the first way, where as a lot of Caucasian folks pronounce it the second way. I'd never heard it pronounced "Mar-see-ah" until my current job and all three are African-American ladies from Jamaica.

I'd initially pronounce it Mar-see-ah, but 'ethnic folks'? Really?

I guess she thought it better than "black/yellow/purple folk" :X

This post has lols not connected to the actual name. But really, I had never seen that name before, and my mind actually flip-flopped on how I would pronounce it.

you've never seen Marcia? o.o

Or any stereotypical romance couple, John&Marcia?

I've only ever seen it spelled Marsha. This spelling, I've never seen it before. Yes, I've heard of the Brady Bunch. Yes, I've seen the Brady Bunch, but the handful of times I did, I don't ever remember seeing Marcia's name onscreen. And no, I've never heard of John and Marcia. When I hear the name, I picture it as Marsha.

Oh. Well, Marcia is generally the traditional spelling. Marsha is a more... I'd guess Anglicized version of it

I do pronounce it MARSH-ah, however, in the similar case of Alicia, I much prefer "A-lee-cee-ah" to "ah-lee-sha"

I say marsh-ah.

I work with two women from the carribean islands (Jamaica & Dominica), and they both say "Mar-see-ah."

Um.

Marcia is Mar-see-uh, to me (at least, this is how my very pale Dutch great-aunt pronounces her name). Marsha is Marsh-ah.
