[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Couple people I met recently.

An 8 week old girl named Averieanna. Pretty much the worst -anna name I've seen in awhile.

Mother: Carys, daughter: Carissa.
Mother: Kaci, daughter: Kaylee

I kind of like the idea of mothers giving their daughters similar names, although I'm not a fan of the second set at all.

I contemplated naming my daughter Sadie (a nick name for Sarah), but my boyfriend vetoed it. Anyway...

WDYT?

I almost like Carys, but other than that, not so much.

My mom's cousin Janie named her daughter Jaime, I think it's a little ridiculous. But I have an Aunt Gwenn who has a daughter named Wendi, that's not too bad. Similar is okay, just not TOO similar.

I'm a Nicole who almost named my daughter Colette. She didn't seem like a Colette when she was born, though. I like the idea of daughters named for mothers :)

It's an interesting idea, but I do agree that Kaci and Kaylee is a bit much. Sounds too intentional and cutesy. Carys and Carissa I sort of like, though.

Averieanna is a mouthful (and a handful when writing it!)

Sadie is cute on a child, I just have trouble seeing it on an adult. But that's just me. :)

My name is Alison, which was originally a nickname for Alice, and Alice is my great-grandmother's name... but my mother didn't realize that when she named me. My middle name is my grandmother's first name. I'm not sure how I would feel about being named something very close to my mother's name, though. Not because I dislike my mother, just because it would be kind of... weird. And I would hate to be named something that was a nickname for her name. It would make me feel like I was supposed to be a cute extension of herself.

Personally I won't name my kids anything that starts with Al, or that has the same root as my name... so no Alexandra, Alma, Ada, Adela, or Heidi, even though I like them. But that's just me, I don't think it's wrong or bad for other people to do it.

My thoughts exactly! What a freaky coincidence.

My mom is Katherine and I'm Karen, both which are from the Greek word meaning "pure". As long as they aren't TOO similar, I think its okay.

my name is Jessica and my mom is Janis.
She liked the J-theme, but she didn't intentionally choose a name similar to hers.
However, I was almost named Stephanie after my dad (Stefano).

I dislike naming after family members, dead or alive.
I like to keep individuality going!

For some reason, I don't mind naming a child exactly after a parent (ie: John Smith Jr. or Anne Smith II), but I really dislike when people give their children names similar to their own.

Averieanna sounds nice, but the spelling just looks odd. Not a fan of Carys.

How do you say Averieanna? A Very Anna? I can't figure it out!

I once considered the name Maristela because it was similar to my not-so-super-secret first name that nobody goes by. But if I don't even use that name, why pawn it off on someone else?
