Date: 2009-08-20 04:50 am (UTC)I like Calypso, August, Simon, and Persephone.
Gray for a girl is a big no for me. It's ok for a boy.
The rest aren't my style.

Date: 2009-08-20 09:17 am (UTC)Gray is okay, for a boy. Also, I prefer the 'e' spelling.
I like August and Simon well enough, though I'd never use them.
I don't really care for Hermione. This name just makes me think of the Harry Potter character anyway, which, for me, isn't always a good thing (I can't decide if I like her or not).
Persephone is kind of pretty, but I can't picture it on an actual child. =/
I don't like Judas or Ulysses.
Ariadne... I'm not sure how this is pronounced. Help, please? =)

Date: 2009-08-20 06:56 pm (UTC)09. Gray (g)--not my style, but very evocative. I kind of like it.
08. Calypso--way too out-there for me.
07. August--which gender? I don't really like it for either.
06. Simon--BIG fan of this one. Classy and intellectual, but still accessible.
05. Judas--Oh my gosh, why not name him Satan and get it over with?
04. Ulysses--too big a mouthful, and hard to spell, and just... no.
03. Hermione--awfully Harry Potter. It's just hard to separate from that.
02. Persephone--see Ulysses. Although Persephone is prettier.
01. Ariadne--considerably more accessible than Persephone, though it will still cause some head-scratching. It's a lovely name, I do like it, I'd just have to think hard about whether it's worth it.
My favorite from this list is definitely Simon.

Date: 2009-08-20 10:19 pm (UTC)Because Judas wasn't Satan and never had the guts to be, when things got down to it. In fact, I like to look at Judas in a more positive light. When you look back in the Bible, the entire exchange seems predestined really. Was Jesus surprised? Nope, and He was more than ready to forgive Judas.
Now, if it were Lucifer up there instead of Judas, then you would be on to something.
August is male, clearly. Who would name a girl August?

Date: 2009-08-21 12:47 am (UTC)On the subject of August, I've learned that just because I wouldn't use a name on a girl doesn't mean other people wouldn't (Dexter, anyone?). It hardly matters, though, since like I said, I don't really like it for either. :)

Date: 2009-08-21 12:52 am (UTC)Unfortunately you're right, and I'd use the variant Jude instead of Judas to spare my son's reputation, though I like the latter tons more.

Date: 2009-08-21 03:35 am (UTC)I also like Jane and August. The rest are too mythological/Biblical for me.
