The kid who split my lip at school-- badly enough for stitches-- was Sterling Dick.

I don't mind the name but not with that surname!

I like it. I'm thinking about it for a son because it's kinda like my husband's name Steven without being too obvious.

I like it okay, but I'm not crazy about it.

For a boy or for a girl? (It seems rather unisex to me.)

I don't think it's horrible, it just comes off a bit "stuffy".

It's alright, for a boy. I can't picture this on a little girl very well...not a feminine girl anyway. =/

I don't mind it, but it's not really my style.

I knew twins named Sterling and Silver.
Which, to me, is pretty cheesy.

I once met a jeweler whose children were named Sterling and Tiara. Kinda cute but not my style.

There's a female DJ on the radio station I listen to named Sterling. I like it.

Surname-y. I imagine it will be very dated because of the recent popularity of surnames as first names and the boy will probably, unfortunately, sound like the masculine named females of his peers.

There are plenty of names that were intended as first names out there that don't have to be mangled or awful like Braydynn or Jaidyrn or Neveahlie. One needs not turn to surnames! You can buck the trend! It's true!

I agree. It also reminds me of one of those obnoxious child characters you see on TV sometimes... really pretentious and annoying. If that makes any sense.

From the answers in the post, it seems like a lot of Sterlings are douches! The one I met was no exception.

It makes me think of Sterling Morrison, who is the only Sterling I've ever heard of.
