Do you think the name Emerson is more masculine or feminine?

I vote for masculine. For me, that applies to the majority of surnames, really.

-son names = masculine.

definitely! "son" almost always makes me think of a boy (a few exceptions, like Madison)

masculine. except for madison/addison, i see all -son names as masculine.

See, those make no sense to me either. They still mean "Son of." The only -son name I can think of that doesn't mean that is Allison, which is a diminuative of Alice.

i'm with you, overall even madison/addison are masculine sounding, but i've seen them on too many girls that i've been swayed. and yes, allison is definitely the only truly feminine -son name.

That's true. If I were to see the name Madison or Addison written, I would assume it was a girl because they're so popular on girls. But secretly I would hope it was a boy. I do the same thing with Mackenzie. I love Mackenzie on a boy, but no sense does it make on a girl. :)

I'd say it's more masculine, but I love boyish names for girls so I could see it go either way.

masculine, but i can see how it'd be nice on a girl. especially with maybe the nickname emmy to fall back on...

Masculine. "SON of Emery." 'Nuff said.

It should be masculine but I've seen it on more girls. However, if I had to use it on one gender it would certainly be male. The -son ending does not work for girls for me, even Madison and Addison.

I see it as a really feminine masculine name if you catch my drift ;) I don't like it on a man though.

Masculine.. though it's really hard for me to get past it as strictly last name.

Masculine, but it's not a first name.

Since 'son' mean's 'son of', and just because, masculine.
