What is a normal name you just can't understand why anyone would want to name their child? Not something like Audio Science or Pilot Inspektor, just a regular name.

For example: It's a tie for me between Kelsey and Jennifer. (Sorry if one of those is your name! No offense meant, I bet you're awesome!) Neither of them sound pretty or feminine to me and something about them seem...empty, or shallow, or something. Weird!

Jessica and Kimberly do that to me. I have no idea why.

I don't really think about that when I meet someone with those names though--just when I'm thinking about names that I would select.

don't worry, I can't tell you why my parents named me Jessica. it was a bad idea.

Camden. I know a couple of people with children named this and frankly it puzzles me. It doesn't mean anything particularly special (winding or crooked valley), it is the name of a fairly cool but run-down area of London*, and it just doesn't sound worth bothering with to me.

I'm also not fond of Cameron and Nigel.

* Everyone I know who's used it lives in the USA. But that doesn't make it any better. It wouldn't be ok for me to call my child Hoboken, for instance, just because I don't live near it. And where are all the Tufnell Parks and Highgates to accompany the Chelseas and Camdens, eh? ;-)

The best-known Camden in the U.S. is Camden, N.J., the "most dangerous city in America" two years running. Classy.

Madison, Mackenzie, Neveah

Any "filler" middle name. There are so many beautiful, meaningful names out there, I can't imagine wasting one for a filler instead.

Rachel. I have always found this name to be entirely unappealing/unattractive, and I've encountered so many people with this name! I don't get it. And they're usually beautiful, smart, lovely people. So it's not like I've got a bad association with it.

My name is Jennifer, and I'm so used to it that I tend to not realize how ugly it actually sounds. The name Martha comes to mind when I think of names that I wouldn't name my kid.

Boy names for girls. HATE. Especially when you're trying to be super-cutesy by naming her Charlee or something.

Old man names for boys. Charles, Henry, George, etc. They don't sound distinguished or classic to me. They just sound old.

Anything that was popular for babies in the 80s. I'm always surprised when I come across a list with Jennifer, Heather, Kimberly, Lindsay, etc, on it.

I know a set of twins called George and Charles. They are 7 now and when I met them, they were 2 weeks old. I thought it strange that they had such old sounding names. They have a brother named Bruce.

I am not crazy about Henry either, or Harry. I know a Henry who is so adorable, and I know some Harry's too.

I work in a daycare, so I see all kinds of names.

It's difficult for me to understand why anyone would name a girl anything that ends with a -son. I realize many of the names are strictly feminine now, but it just bothers me a lot.

i don't really dislike any names. what i can't stand is when people name their kids, and the names have no significant meaning to the parents. for instance, people who name their kids just simply because they like the name; meaning the name had no background, no family tradition, it wasn't picked because of the traits they thought 'while pregnant' that the child may possess. now by all means, you SHOULD like the name when naming them, but it should have a more indepth meaning then just because you think its cute/classy/whatever.

when i picked my son's name,it was to name sake my grandfather, and because issak means 'he who laughs,' my son completely fits his name, and it had meaning.

i don't know, i just think that children should be named for a reason, more then just because the parents think the name sounds good.

Paige

Olivia (I appreciate it as a lovely name, but it sounds gross to me because the "liv" part reminds me of "liver")

Lyn when used as a middle name, ergh. Although it's ok as a first name.

For boys, I don't like any name that has a "y" sound, which includes most of them. e.g. William (I pronounce it like will-Yum) Matthew, Daniel, etc. Like others have said, I don't mind these names when someone has them, I don't think about whehter i like it or not. But when I repeat the name over and over and think about using it I don't like it.

Paige is the only one I really hate.
