[identity profile] clutterbang.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
hello baby names.
my I have a son named Fin and I am pregnant again and I think I would like to stick with the water theme.. if I can find enough options maybe. the only thing I have thought of so far is Surge, for a boy obviously.. opinions?
oxygen really hits me in a nice crunchy place but the word really doesn't flow quite well enough.
does anybody know any good h20-themed baby names?

You forgot Soda, Sparkling, and Flavored.

Indeed. I also forgot Vitamin. Oops. Good call, though! :)

Ooo, I didn't think about Vitamin. Good idea. What about Life? I'm a big fan of the Sobe LifeWater.

Wait, we both forgot the obvious....Dasani, Arrowhead, Aquafina, Evian, etc!

We need to add Life to the list posthaste. Oh, and how could we have forgotten those? To add on, I'd also suggest Ice Mountain, Propel, and Fiji. Given our excellent suggestions, it will be interesting to see how the OP will ever decide on just one name!

Personally, I think the new one should be Dol. Dol and Fin! Don't get me wrong, I *kind of* like the name Finn....but the whole 'water' thing is a bit much

Oh, absolutely. Plus, the OP can always name a third child Blue. No, I'm with you entirely. I actually quite like water-themed names, but I probably wouldn't use them on more than one child.

Nah. If we're going with Dol and Fin, then name the last one Miami.

Surge just makes me think of the soda. What about River?

Surge is awful and Oxygen is just abusive. Why not something water-related but not super obvious? IE Dylan, which means "son of the sea."

I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been given (personally, I've always kind of liked River), but...Surge and Oxygen are awful.

Yaritza means 'lady of the water'. I always thought that was kind of nice.

Other suggestions:

Douglas (Gaelic, 'black water')
Irving/Irvine (Gaelic, 'green water')
Kyle (Gaelic, 'strait of water')

India (Sanskrit, 'body of water')
Iara/Yara (Brazilian, 'water lady')
Kyla (Gaelic, 'strait of water' or 'beautiful')
Naida/Nereida (Greek, 'water nymph')

Also, Neve means 'snow', which is also water-related, and Eira is Welsh for snow.

I knew a guy named Sarge (Sargeant) and I think Surge is similar to that. I kind of like it.

I also knew an older lady named Aquanetta, who went by Aqua - but I don't like that.

I've also always found Ocean to be a gp name.

Aquanetta? Really?

I bet it was pre-CFC ban, too.

Tallulah means "leaping water" and India means "river", they're my two favorite water-themed names.

I know a Tyde. I like it a bit more spelled correctly, though, Tide, not so bad? But going from Fin (is that the full name?) to Surge is a bit much, IMO.

Fin is not my thing, but Surge and Oxygen are just ridiculous.

I always liked the name Marin for a girl.

Do you know boy or girl yet?

For a girl
Calypso - In Greek myth this was the name of the nymph who fell in love with Odysseus after he was shipwrecked on her island of Ogygia.

River
Brooke
Ariel

Naiad - The girl's name Naiad \naiad\ is a variant of Naida (Greek), and the meaning of Naiad is "water nymph". In Greek mythology, the Naiads or Naiades (Ναϊάδες from the Greek νάειν, "to flow," and νἃμα, "running water") were a type of nymph who presided over fountains, wells, springs, streams, and brooks[1].

Marina - The girl's name Marina \m(a)-ri-na\ is pronounced mah-REE-nah. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "from the sea". From "marine".

Philyra - In Greek mythology, Philyra was an Oceanid, a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. She was the goddess of perfume, writing, healing, beauty and paper. She also taught humanity to make paper.

Lilaea - In Greek mythology, Lilaea was a Naiad who lived in the Cephissus River. The town of Lilaea in Phocis and the asteroid 213 Lilaea are named after her.

Maya - Derived from Hebrew מַיִם (mayim) "water".

for a boy
Nemo - the captain in Jules Verne's adventure novel "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea".

Poseidon - The boy's name Poseidon \p(o)-sei-don\ is of Greek origin. Mythology: the sea god, equivalent to the Roman Neptune. He is usually depicted with a trident, with which he caused storms and earthquakes.

Surf
Tritan

Neptune - From the Latin Neptunus, which is of unknown meaning. Neptune was the god of the sea in Roman mythology, approximately equivalent to the Greek god Poseidon.

Mariner - The boy's name Mariner \m(a)-ri-ner\ is a variant of Marriner (English), and the meaning of Mariner is "mariner, seaman, sailor".
Marinus - From the Roman family name Marinus, which derives either from the name MARIUS or from the Latin word marinus "of the sea".

Merlin - The boy's name Merlin \m(e)-rlin, mer-lin\ is pronounced MER-lin. It is of Welsh origin, and its meaning is "sea fortress". Merlin has 7 variant forms: Marlin, Marlon, Merle, Merlen, Merlinn, Merlyn and Merlynn.

Jonah - From the Hebrew name יוֹנָה (Yonah) meaning "dove". This was the name of a prophet swallowed by a fish, as told in the Old Testament Book of Jonah. He emerged from the fish alive three days later.

Conway - From a surname which was derived from the name of the River Conwy, which possibly means "holy water" in Welsh.

boy or girl
Morgan - the name Morgan, is pronounced MOR-gan. It is of Welsh origin, and its meaning is "circling sea". Also possibly (Welsh) "great brightness" or (Old English) "bright or white sea dweller".

Jordan - From the name of the river which flows between the countries of Jordan and Israel. The river's name in Hebrew is יַרְדֵן (Yarden), and it is derived from יָרַד (yarad) meaning "descend" or "flow down".

I'm not much help, but two of my favorite names are Blue and Indigo. :) I like Fin, too. Oxygen would be awful though, IMO.

Tallulah. Ha, and maybe Noah or Moses -- they had water issues.

Surge reminds me of the soda, to be honest. My first thought was Seamus (Pronounced Shay-muss). Another name I like that's definitely not trendy is "Okena" which I read means "water chief" in Native American. There's also Nen which means "ancient waters".

Arnav, which is "ocean" in Sanskirt.

Namiko, which means "wave child" for a female in Japanese.

Laine, the Finnish female name meaning "wave".

Arnav also means "rabbit" in Hebrew.
