What do you think of the name Ever? (Aside from the David Carradine/Milla Jovovich associations.)

I'm starting to figure out that I lean toward more quirky, not so common names (Vega, Ever, Vala,..). My husband is even more into unique names like this than I am, so at least now that we've haggled over baby names for 8 months, we're making a little progress.

Can you suggest names that fall into our "not too weird but uncommon" names category?

I am 33 weeks pregnant and have a list of approximately zero names that I would actually use. I am just as lost on a name now as I was from day 1. :(

I've never heard of Ever used as a name. Oh, apparently it was ranked 918 in 1893 in the US and 973 in 1901. Interesting.

This sounds a little crazy, but take a look at the top 500 names of 1904 and 1921 http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/ You might find something interesting there.

I've had residents with the names Vera and Viola, I work with an Elma, and the name Odyssey makes me think of a girl I once knew named Odessa. Plus, a friend of mine used to want to name a girl Nova. lol

There are some really pretty names on that list!

I honestly hate it. Names like that just remind me of someone who is trying really, really hard... hipster-type names. I don't mean to be rude at all, but I think the names you were considering before were really a lot better. It's possible to name a child something different and interesting without it being ridiculous... there are plenty of actual names out there that aren't very popular, but still don't scream 'look how unique we are.'

I kinda love this name. I think it's super pretty, but it's probably one of those names that I would leave to a middle, if I used it at all, because it's a little more 'out there' than I would like. I know it's a word, as many people have said, but I wouldn't let that necessarily deter you. I think there are some words that work as names, and I consider this one.

I still like Ada a lot, too ;)

lol I used to love the name Ever...when I was writing stories I would have a character named Evelyn but a kid brother or someone wouldn't be able to say Evelyn and would say Everlyn so they got the name Ever.

I'm starting to get the feeling that the moment you set eyes on your daughter, a name will jump at you that you love.

I don't care for Ever.

Looking at the other names you listed...what about Vada (VAY-dah)? Like the character from 'My Girl'.

Other "quirky, uncommon, but not TOO weird" names that come to mind are:

Luna
Lyric
Wren
Starla
Dove
