Looking for a good middle name...

My husband and I are having a hard time finding a good middle name to go with the first name that we chose for our daughter who is due in a few weeks. Her first name will be Imbrium. (Imbri for short.) and the husband really likes the name Rowan for a middle name. I like the name Rowan, but would rather save it for a first name for a future child. Also, if her middle name is Rowan, her initials will be IRV. :P So I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a middle name that would sound good with the first name Imbrium? :)

I don't know what it is either.

Since Imbrium means "rains" or "shadows", I think I would try to go with something more "bright" for the middle name, to balance it out.
For example, Imbrium Phoebe (means "bright, radiant") sounds really nice to me, or Imbrium Electra (means "light")

Too easy for the kids here to make fun of her initials. :) I live in the Netherlands, and so have to consider not only how easy it will be to make fun of her in English, but also in Dutch.

I'm Dutch, but I don't get what's wrong with IRV either!

Rowan is really nice, I think. To be completely honest with you though, Imbrium sounds like some kind of medication to me. Did you choose it just for the sound, or is there a meaning behind it?

It's the name of the Sea of Rains on the moon. :) (The Mare Imbrium.) It's also one of the few names that my husband and I really like.

Well, Irv is usually the shortened form of Irving. When we told the Dutch family, the names and they started laughing, and my brother in law starting singing 'The ballad of Irving'. My sister just laughed at me (apparently she thought of that song as well.) It's possible that my family is just cruel or weird, but if they can come up with something like that on the fly, I have no doubt that children will come up with something just as bad or worse. :)

We were initially thinking of the name: Imbrium Rowan Kytheria V. (Sorry not sharing my last name.) But then her initials would be IRK V. and the jokes rolled in. "Stop irking me!" "I can't help it, you named me this!"

Since Imbrium is not a name that is very clear about being either a boy or a girl, I would recommend picking a recognizably feminine middle name. It'll save her a lot of annoyance. Not that everyone will see her middle name, I guess, but those who do will be saved the confusion.

I can't help but think of a horse (night mare to be exact) in a fantasy series I read. Her name was Mare Imbrium. I love the name though.

I also love what someone else suggested Imbrium Electra. (Electra was another character in the series)

I don't have many suggestions, but I wanted to voice a "good choice" opinion. I don't think I could use the name, but I like it a lot.

LOL! Another Xanth fan! Mare Imbrium, a nightmare turned daydream. :) I really liked the name Electra too, but my husband told me that it sounded like a hooker's name. (Same reason why the name Esmerelda is not allowed.)

We also liked Melody, Harmony, Ivy, and my sister got the reference immediately and liked it, but we're really struggling to agree on a middle name. The husband is also a bit resistant to naming the child entirely characters from Piers Anthony novels, regardless of how well we like them. I just think that Piers Anthony is good at naming his characters, personally.

Part of the problem has definitely been trying to find names that work in both languages that we both like and that haven't already been used by either (very large) family. I've had suggestions from Dutch acquaintances like the name 'Loes'. Which would be fine, except that it's pronounced like 'Loose'. Obviously not something I want to name my child. :)

Yep, I love Xanth. (and other Piers Anthony books) I haven't read the two most recent though.

I also like Trent - but that might be because I love his character so much. That's not a girl name though.

I am sure you will find a great name for your daughter, Piers Anthony related or not.
