Aug. 6th, 2009 10:12 pmMy husband just cannot get off the name Phoebe. Its the only name he has any interest in using. Everything else I suggest, his response is always "______ is okay, but I still like Phoebe better." I'm not against the name. I'm pretty neutral toward it actually. Its an alright name in my book, but I'm not crazy about it.
So, a couple of questions to help me decide whether or not to veto Phoebe once and for all;
What names do you think go well with Phoebe? Suggest one boy and one girl name if possible.
What kind of not-so-good nicknames could kids tease a Phoebe with?
Thanks!

oh and as for sibsets, the name means bright or light.so u can find names with similiar meanings..its a myth type name so you could use artemis for a girl and leda or helen, or for the roman slant you can use bird type names for following kids ( hawk etc)

Date: 2009-08-07 03:40 am (UTC)According to Behind the Name
"Latinized form of the Greek name Φοιβη (Phoibe), which meant "bright, pure" from Greek φοιβος (phoibos). In Greek mythology Phoibe was a Titan associated with the moon. This was also an epithet of her granddaughter, the moon goddess Artemis. The name appears in Paul's epistle to the Romans in the New Testament, where it belongs to a female minister in the church at Cenchreae. In England, it began to be used as a given name after the Protestant Reformation. A moon of Saturn bears this name (in honour of the Titan)."
That's a better origin that I realized, actually. I also associate it with Phoebe from Friends though.
As far as trending, it was 425 in 2005, 363 in 2006, 338 in 2007, 348 in 2008. So nothing terribly enlightening trend-wise.
I think Phoebe as a middle name could be a good idea if your husband really likes it and you aren't crazy about it. Actually, in Shopaholic and Baby there's a part where Becky says that her baby is called Tallulah Phoebe.
