(no subject)

My partner and I found out this week that I am pregnant. We think I'm about 8 weeks gone but we should hopefully find out for definate on Monday! We're both so happy and excited about it even though it wasn't planned...now that we've got over the shock :D

I know it's still early but we've been thinking about names. We have a favourite for a girl but we can't seem to find a boys name that we both really like.

The girls name is (surname will be Hood):

Lyra-Grae Elizabeth

We have a sort of "short-list" for boys first names and a deffinate middle name but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated (we're kind of stuck)

Boys names list (surname Hood):

Dante Alexandar
Dexter Alexandar
- We both really like Dexter but I don't know how well it goes with Alexandar?!
Drake Alexandar
Ryker Alexandar
Wolfe Alexandar
- My partner loves this, I like it but I'm still not too sure.

Opinions? Suggestions?
I know we have ages but we're too excited to wait lol :)

Thanks,
Lolz xx

I'm really liking Dante Alexandar.

ooh I LOOOOVE Lyra-Grae Elizabeth. I'm definitely not usually a fan of Gray/Grey/whatever but Lyra is very feminine and soft sounding, so I think it makes it okay.

Dante Alexandar - nms but okay
Dexter Alexandar - I think Dexter goes fine with Alexander, but I don't like Dexter, lol
Drake Alexandar - yuck, really don't like Drake, sounds like a dogs name
Ryker Alexandar - Ryker???? WTF? No way
Wolfe Alexandar - awful, sorry :/

Definitely like Dante Alexander the best.

The only one I can really swallow is Dante. Please steer away from Ryker.

Are you pronouncing Lyra like LYE-ruh or like LEAR-uh? (We say LEAR-uh and think it is beautiful, but I am told that it is properly LYE-ruh in the Pullman books).

Regarding your male names, "Wolfe Hood" gives me a "Little Red Riding Hood" vibe.

Ryker reminds me of this (http://correctionhistory.org/html/chronicl/nycdoc/html/jailist1.html).

I love the name Drake. :)

I love Dante & Drake... I also like Ryker oddly enough.

Congrats!

Of all those boys' names, I think Drake is the best to go with the middle name. Dexter does not go with Alexandar, I'm a New Yorker, so Ryker makes me think of Ryker's Island, not good connotations. Dante and Wolfe... just no.

Lyra is ok but Lyra-Grae is just horrible. Why on earth would you saddle your kid with an odd, hyphonated first name? I like Lyra Elizabeth much better. As for your boys names, Dexter is ok, but as others have said it really does not go with Alexander. Dante is really pretentious, imo. Wolfe and Ryker are just... no.

i love your names!!! i cant choose just one!

Strange, i've never heard of Lyra before, apart from Dark Materials trilogy & my best friends sisters 7 month old (Lyra Carmella) It's adorable, but Lyra-Grae does seema bit over the top to me.. it's kind of hard to say fast & reminds me of Lila Grace but.. not quite.
I think Dexter Alexander sounds very strong, i like that they sounds relatively similar.
Anyway congratulations :-)

I like Dante the best.

I LOVE Lyra-Grae! Keep that name to yourself, or people steal it! lol

I think Lyra Grae Elizabeth is OK, but I like it without the hyphen. They are both unusual names and with the hyphen its just TOO much. Plus it gives her the option of going by Lyra professionally if she wants. Otherwise Lyra-Grae will be her first name and on her drivers license, diplomas, etc. Lyra Elizabeth is more my style.

I like Dante and Dexter, but Drake and Wolfe are awful, and Ryker reminds me of the guy in Star Trek.
