My friend actually wants to name is daughter Fehyth (Faith) Gia Straus. I'm trying to convince him this is a bad idea. For the record, he would want to name is first son Christian Lucas Owen Straus.

Yuck, that pretty much removes all meaning from the name. And I'm not even fond of Faith when you spell it right. As for Christian Lucas Owen, they're all nice names that are crammed together awkwardly.

WTF? The boys name isn't too bad, I'm not a fan of two middle names and I don't think it flows that well in that order - I'd reverse Lucas and Owen or just drop Lucas altogether - but it's not a bad name, but Fehyth? What the hell is wrong with spelling it Faith? Looking at that my first impression is he has something against daughters lol, I can't think why else he'd want to saddle a girl with that monstrosity.

To be honest, I think somebody who would spell his daughter's name "Fehyth" is probably already too far removed from thinking logically about the lifelong, negative affects of that level misspelling. There's probably no point even trying any more, and when their kid reaches school age and starts hating their name, they'll probably just blame the school instead of themselves. Don't underestimate the power of denial.



But! If you want to try, and if you have a tape recorder or even a camcorder:

Write the name really big on a white piece of cardboard, go to the nearest shopping mall, and tape yourself asking random passersby how they would pronounce it. Make sure you include their reactions after you tell them, too.

Virtue names are a guilty pleasure for me and I actually like Faith Gia Straus as a combo, but that spelling is atrocious. It wouldn't even have occured to me that Fehyth could be an alternate spelling of Faith, I would've pronounced it completely differently.

There is a book I was interested in reading but the main character's name was Faythe and I couldn't get past it so I didn't read the book!

I never would've gotten to Faith with that spelling. That is horrible. Looking at it at first, I thought it was just some other Welsh name that I had never seen before, but the fact that it's supposed to be Faith. Faith. Wow. I hope he has boys.
