(no subject)

People on here often post about not naming their baby a name because a family member or whoever has a similar name. Do any of you like names that are similar to your own? Maybe I'm weird.
My name is Briana, and I really like Adriana. Is this too similar to my own name? I am called Bri a lot. I also kind of like Breya (Bray-uh).
Anyone here like names similar to their own?

Also do you think Elliott and Elizabeth are too similar for siblings? I think yes, my fiance thinks no. This isn't a major issue since we dont have any children yet.

My name is Claire and I LOVE my name, it or Clara would probably be in my top 5 otherwise.

I do think Elliott and Elizabeth are a little too close, but they wouldn't be for some people I guess *shrugs*

I like Corrinne and Cora but think they are too similar to Courtney and my family nickname Corey.

I think Elliott and Elizabeth are ok, but there are probably sibsets I like better

I dislike the names that are "so-and-so Jr, so-and-so the third" etc because I associate new names with new identities, but I do like naming after family members to honor them (I ESPECIALLY loved the one idea a few weeks ago to combine Maria or Marie? with Lynn to form Marilyn). I'm not a huge fan of the similar names like Robert and Robin unless you're naming a different gender but I'd be open to it if my SO loved the idea.

As for Elliot and Elizabeth I do not think they are too similar for siblings. In fact, I love them.

I don't think they're too similar. To me they have very different sounds, despite containing a lot of the same letters.

I don't think Briana and Adriana are TOO similar to consider either. It would be one thing if it was sisters, but for a mother and daughter I think it's fine. Growing up a friend of mine's mother was named Doreen and named her son Doren (not sure if that's how they spelled it. pronounced door-in). I think it's fine to have similar sounding names in the family if they're different generations.

wouldn't you pronounce the i in that though? Like door-ee-in? This was definitely said door-in, I just don't know the spelling. For all I know, they may have made the name up totally.

Elliott and Elizabeth are fine together and totally great names!!
Breya and Adriana are pretty similar to your name, unfortunately.
But if you go by Bri, then Adriana works much better overall.

I love Elliott and Elizabeth together!

My mom is Sharon and I'm Erin (hell when people call the house) but it has never been a problem. I certainly don't think Elliott and Elizabeth are too samey.

My name is Gabriele and I love Gabriel for a boy. XD

Elliott and Elizabeth are pretty close, but some people like matchy names. This girl I grew up with, her parents names are Dino and Debbie, her and her sisters are named Danielle, Dayna, Diana, Deiandra, and Deena.

I know how you feel. My name is Alison, and I like Adelaide, Ada, Adeline, and Adela, all of which are from the same root. Which isn't really a big deal, but I'd still feel kind of weird giving a kid a name that's basically a different version of my own.

I also really like Alexandra, but it starts with 'Al' just like my first name, and then my middle name is Sandra, so... it's just too similar.

I have always liked the name Christine, but my name is Krysta and they are just too close for me to ever use Christine.

the only name similar to mine is Samuel. and I already have a cousin named Samuel, so. I really don't think I'd ever use it.

Elliott and Elizabeth sound fine to me.

I think the only name I like that's similar to Sharon is Sorcha, and it's really not that close. ^^

my name is adriana :). i always get compliments on it. my nickname is adry..pronounced audrey.

..well, it's kind of related to your post

I don't think they're too close, though it might be kind of odd if there's a third child who doesn't follow the "Eli-" trend... and if there WAS a third child who did, then I think that'd be too close/cutesy hah. Also, Elliott and Elisa (/maybe Elissa or Elisabeth.. Elisa has just been that name I "made up" with I was 6 and still love) are both high on my lists, and thinking about it, I probably wouldn't use them together unless I spelled Elisa/changed Elisabeth as Alyssa.

I don't really like anything that sounds like my name, but I do love both Owen and Nolan which both sound a little too similar for my liking. I also like both Madison and Madeline, and Eva and Ava, though I'm not sure if I would even use any of those given how popular they are. AND just to go on with my tangent for a question you didn't even ask, I like Evan too, which is also too close to Eva (which is the most likely of the four girls names I mentioned that I'd use).

My boyfriend's family is all kind of close. Ann (mom), Richard (dad), Nicholas, Daniel. Doesn't sound too close until you realize they go by Ann, Dan, Nick, and Rick.

Lol Me too! My name is Diana and I do notice I tend to like a lot og names that end in "iana" (including Adriana and Briana. I also like Ariana) Maybe -iana means egostistical? Lol

I like Brea, but not Breya (same pron.).

My name is Meredith Catherine and 'Edith Catrine' was in the running for our first daughter (whom we ended up naming Brenna Rose). I will likely use some form of Catherine or Elizabeth in honor of my mother. My mother is Catherine Elizabeth and her grandmothers were Catherine and Elizabeth. I have a cousin Brennan(m) and an aunt Brenda, both of whom slipped my mind when naming my daughter! :)

We've considered using a name my SIL used (she used it knowing we really wanted to use it and that we likely might, so I wouldn't feel too bad), but my husband doesn't seem to want to use it anymore and I'm letting him decide.

I don't think Elliot (one t!!) and Elizabeth are too similar for siblings.

Mine and my siblings names are fairly different, but they did all have 'ere' or 'erre' in them. (Meredith, Jeremy, and Darrell {D.J})

My husband's and FIL's names is Albert and my niece is names Alice.

i don't think Elliott (i too prefer it with one t though) and Elizabeth are too similar.

my name is lyndsey. the only similar name i can think of off the top of my head is lynn, which i really dislike. however, oddly enough, people mistake my name for "wednesday" (not sure how, it's mostly on the telephone) ALL the time, which is a name i love.

[identity profile] relevancedenied.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
ah, well that i can understand. :]

[identity profile] sarahness.livejournal.com 2009-07-31 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I love my name (Sarah, if it wasn't obvious). I thought about giving it to my daughter as a middle name, but I didn't want to be too vain.

I also love Sadie, which is a nick name for Sarah.
And Amira, which has the same meaning as my name (princess).

I think Elliott and Elizabeth are too similar for siblings, but it's not really THAT bad.
