Coinneach

Is the name Coinneach (Irish, male, pronounced KOH-in-awk) too much?

I personally think it's fabulous, but anytime I tell it to someone, they make a face, and say it sounds like the name of some beer.

What are your opinions?

[BTW: I'm not pregnant, not TTC; I merely have an interest in names.]

Looks like it's pronounced similar to Cognac. Is that right?

If so, then, beer isn't the alcohol that first comes to mind :/

As for my opinion on the name - I don't like it much, not only because it sounds like Cognac but also because it will always be mispronounced unless you live in Ireland!

I think it'd be impossible to get people to pronounce it properly in America.

Agreed. It's too much.

How about just Cohen?

I like Cailean, which is similar. If we have a girl, she'll probably be Rhiannon. If it's a boy, it'll probably be Jesse or Cailean.

I think it's too much unless you are Irish, live IN Ireland, and are a native-born Gaelic speaker.
