[identity profile] jenufa.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My second kiddo is due in a month and a half, and we can't agree on a name for ANYTHING. :(

My first is named Samuel, but we just call him Sammy for right now. I liked that I can call him something cutesy while he's small, but also that he has a name to 'grow into', as it were. I want this for my second as well... which we're PRETTY sure is a boy (he keeps crossing his legs when we go to check though... hmmm!) so boy names are what I'm looking for. I already have girl names set in my head, so if we get a big SURPRISE at the end here, I'm not too worried about that.

So yeah. Boy names that are mature and can be grow into, but have cutesy-poo nicknames for baby/childhood. :) Our tastes are pretty old fashioned, so nothing too new or ultra popular if possible. Thanks!

ETA: WOW, didn't expect so many responses so quickly. :) I'm going to show this post to my husband when he gets off work and hopefully he'll see that the things I've been telling him are actually good names that people OTHER than me like and think of too! ;)

I'm not sure about Samuel and Daniel as a sibset though (and they'd likely end up as Sammy and Danny ... don't like that either personally).

I didn't even consider that. I kinda agree. Also kinda like it more because of that, haha. I like names that are a bit matchy, but maybe it is too much.

Personally I hate matching names. I like them to have a similar style but I don't like it when they sound like the parents were trying to have a pattern, but that's just my personal taste.

I love the name Daniel and think that Sammy & Danny would be really cute.

Also, he could very easily grow into the name and go by Dan or Daniel as an adult.

My fathers name is William. My grandmother and grandfather called him Willy when he was little, and once in his teens and adulthood called him Will. However, my fathers friends called him Billy when he was younger and as he aged they started to call him just Bill. It's more of an old fashion name I think plus there is some room for choosing a nickname = ) I hope that helps you out. I wish you the best of luck.

my brother's name is Matthew, and he always hatted the nn Matty, even as a three year old (he wouldn't respond to it, and he made scenes if someone called him Matty in public, lol). so we've always called him Matt.

Isaac and Aaron don't really have cutesy nicknames but I think they work well for kids.

I have a newphew named Samuel...we call him Sammy.
He has 3 brothers, they are Daniel (who has always gone by Daniel, but could be Dan or Daniel), George (who we call Georgie) and David (who goes by Davy or Wavy-Davy).

When I went in to give birth to my daughter all we had was a middle name, after my mom and his aunt who had passed away. I didn't know we could leave the hospital without naming her or else we probably would have. We ended up with Gabrielle because it was the only name on both of our lists. Neither one of us loved the name...I barely liked it...lol...but it was what we could agree on. So she's Gabrielle Kathryn. We call her Gabby/Gabbers now...and she still has a name that will be adult enough for her when she grows up. Oh and we really like Gabriel for a boy (had she been a boy her name would have been Gabriel)...so that is where we got Gabrielle from

My brother's name is Jonathan and he's been called Johnny, Jon, Johna, Nate.. and affectionately Joe-Nathan haha. It can definitely transition from cutesy baby boy to mature :)

I think Henry would sound really nice with Samuel. But if you like nicknames (as I do!) I second monkey_fruit's suggestion about James. Sammy and Jamie... cute!

A friend of mine went in for an ultrasound recently and I was SOOOOO excited to hear what the sex was.. and the little bugger crossed its legs too!!

I'll second Toby/Tobias. That's my twelve year old cousin's name, and he loves that he's the only Toby he knows. Plus, it has the added benefit of allowing us to call him Tobywan Kenobi. You sound like you're a bit gentler with the nickname's though :D. We call my little cousin Samantha Samurai.

I also really like Gus and have come across a couple Augusts, Augustuses, and Aenguses in my preschool classes. Personally, I think August is pretty cute.
