What do you think of the name Emme for a girl? (Pronounced Emmy but I wouldn't spell it that way)

Can you think of any nice middle names to go with it?

Thanks!

I think that it's a little silly and nicknamey and should be spelt Emmy.

I'd end up pronouncing it "em" -- you know, like how elle is "el"...
It seems like a nickname.

Exactly. Le doesn't make "Lee," which is why Elle isn't pronounced "Elly"... For me, that ending "me" on Emme falls under the same rule: "Me" doesn't make "mee," thus the pronunciation not being "Emmy."

Blagh. Did that make any sense? ^^;

I don't know. To me, Emme (with the pronunciation Emmy) seems like one of those names that you're going to have to correct people about all the time.

"me" makes "mee" when it's at the beginning of a word ("median", "meal" "mere") but not at the end of a word.

Yes, for regular words. For name endings, it's usually "my."

Or "ie" (Jamie). I've never seen just...me. :|

Never mind I just realized what you're saying, except I think you've totally missed the point of what I'm saying.

-me doesn't make "mee" at the end of a word (or a name). It only makes "mee" at the beginning of a word. Therefore, Emme=Emmy is phonetically impossible, but -me=mee is not.

Yea, I probably have missed the point, lol. I keep re-reading to see if I'm missing something, but...meh, whatever. I'm done. :)

*sighs*

I'm agreeing with you, let's just leave it at that.

Ah, I got what you were saying after I had replied. ^^

I didn't come off rude in that last one, did I? I apologize if I did! ^^; I was supposed to have been in bed hours ago and I'm busy rushing about, trying to save the links of the fifty-million tabs I seem to have open...

I'm so glad I'm not the only one.

It's much too nicknamey for a full name. Besides, Emmy would be the last way I'd pronounce Emme. First I'd think it was like Emma, and if not that than just Em.

Everytime I read about Jennifer Lopez's kids I wonder how it is pronounced (and I literally have no idea how she pronounces it). I think people would always get it wrong.

It looks like a nickname for me, for example for Emmanuelle.
But I do agree that it might be read as Em by some, since Elle is pronounced El.

That said, I still don't like the "Emmy" sound, I'd just go with Emma, if that's the case, and then use Emme (prn like you want) as a nickname.

I'd see "Emme" and pronounce it "Emma" (or just "Em") before I'd think it was "Emmy".

Also, I don't particularly like it - as others have said, it's much too 'nickname-y'.

I would pronounce it Emmy, but that's because I know an Emily who goes by Emme and signs stuff that way.

I can't think of it as anything other than a nickname.

I like it a lot, I think it's pretty.

Emme Evangeline
Emme Renee
Emme Savannah
Emme Veronica
Emme Abigail

It's not bad, but it seems like a nickname to me. Also, I was pronouncing it like the letter M until I saw your note beside it.

I think it's quite cute. It could also work very nicely as a nickname for Emmeline.

I say Emme like EM, not Emmy. It seems like a nickname to me, but I think it would sound good with a longer middle name. Like...Emme Violet, Emme Aurelia, Emme Rosalind, etc. :)

I would say "Emma" not "Emmy". It's kind of dull to me.

I went to school with a girl named Emme. I've always liked it.

Emme Jane is what first came to mind...

Without a y or i, I read it as "Em."

This. I never would have guessed that it's pronounced like "Emmy".
