(no subject)

Narrowing it down seems like it's getting easier. But even after I take off like 20 names, I still find myself left with like a thousand more! I know I'm going to find out what I'm having soon.. but I haven't yet so I'm looking at both boy and girl names. I think for boys it's pretty clear cut what I want the name to be: Landon Parker.
Caitey Andersyen
Charlee Austin
Charlee Monroe
Holland Monroe
Caitey Madelyn
Reagan Valley
Denver Valley
America Madelyn
California Giovana
Cambree Jackson
December Lynn
Deana Lynn
Gianna Minnesota
Hannelore Monroe
Holland Andersyen
Mindy Monroe

GAH, I just don't know. I don't even like them together. Maybe seperate. Maybe like that. I don't know. I really like those names. I just don't know in what way.
The last name is Taylor. More names on personal journal.
And help would be sooo much appreciated.

I LOVE Landon Parker. Parker is my first choice for a boy, but as a first name.

Is Charlee like "shar" or "Char"?

The only names I like on your girl list are Cambree, December, and Holland. I wouldn't put Monroe, Andersyen, Denver, or Austin for a girl at all. "Austen" maybe b/c of Jane Austen....but that's a big Maybe.

Minnesota!

do you like the state, or just like the sound of it? i live here and i've never really thought of it for a name before..but now that you mention it, i do kind of like it!

my favorite name on your list is Holland

*shivers* I live in Minnesota. Couldn't fathom naming my child it. This state is cursed! lol

I like Denver, that's about it. Though I like the name you picked for a boy. But the girls are just a bit too odd for me. Like they're not meant to be people's names. IMHO

I lived in North Dakota for half my life so I am like WTF about Minnesota as a CHILD'S NAME as well.

I must say, I don't like very many of your names, but Gianna particularly strikes me. But I don't like Minnesota, at all, really, so maybe, Gianna Lynn, or Gianna Madelyn

I dunno but I just had a weird idea to feminize Austin, making it Austine. I still don't know if I like it or not, or if anybody will, I literally just thought of it 20 seconds ago, but I figured if you could get Justine from Justin... Don't mind me!

i've always loved the name austin for a little girl.

i really like the sound of Austin Lyn Taylor. that way she would have an original, unique first name, but her whole name isn't completely odd. - its late, forgive me if im not making much sense at the moment:-)

[identity profile] howdroll.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Caitey Andersyen,Charlee Austin, Charlee Monroe, Holland Monroe ,Caitey Madelyn, Cambree Jackson, Holland Andersyen, Mindy Monroe- these all sound like porno actors, quite seriously.
Reagan Valley- As in the Us president?
Denver Valley- this sounds like a place.
America Madelyn California Giovana, Gianna Minnesota- these three are terrifying
December Lynn
Deana Lynn
Hannelore Monroe- is this a name?

I like Holland as a name, but not with that middle name
Giovana and Gianna are quite sweet but not with place names

Good luck!

Sure, Hannelore is used in Germany. ("e" is not silent but makes an "eh" sound here, so you can think of it as sounding similar to Hannah Laura.)

[identity profile] howdroll.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That is really quite cute!

You sound completely overwhelmed, so what if you just work on the first name first, and worry about a middle once you have that one set?

Here's where I'd start to narrow down your list:

1) Because Taylor sounds like the occupation word tailor, I would eliminate all of the first names that sound like words that could describe a tailor. For instance, "Denver Taylor" sounds like you are describing someone who sews clothing in Colorado. Same issue with America Taylor, California Taylor, Valley, Minnesota, and December Taylor (someone who sews clothes in the wintertime). Holland Taylor seems less problematic, for whatever reason, but still you might want to leave Holland for a middle name.

2) I would eliminate all names that exhibit a lot of the same characteristics as Taylor so as not to be repetitive. For instance, I'd dump Caitey Taylor and Reagan Taylor because both names have two syllables, are stressed on the first syllable, have a long A sound in that syllable. That makes for a fairly uninteresting-sounding combination.

3) Because a person is a child for (hopefully) less than 1/6th of her lifetime, I would choose a name that sounds grown-up enough to appear at the top of a resume or a business card over a name that sounds like it belongs to a little girl. Names that fall into this category: Charlee, Mindy, Cambree. (You might also consider naming her something like Charlotte, Melinda, or Cameron and using these as short forms for when she is small.)

What is left at this point
- Deana (although I can't tell from the spelling if it's supposed to be DEE-nuh or dee-ANN-uh. Try Dena/Dina or Deanna to make it unambiguous)
- Gianna
- Hannelore

My pick:

Gianna Holland Taylor

Gianna is elegant and grown-up enough for an adult, but has a couple of adorable nickname possibilities that work great for a little girl (Gia, Gigi, Annie. It is unusual and distinctive but not weird.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Hannelore! You never see that on anyone's lists! Gianna is also beautiful. The rest of them... eh. I think a lot of the -ee names as full names are sort of infantilizing; I'd give her a longer name to fall back on (e.g. Catharine --> Caity; Charlotte --> Charlee). Denver Valley sounds like a geographical feature, not a little girl; Holland and even America have been accepted as names (albeit unusual ones), but California and Minnesota are still a bit too place-namey, I think. Being from California, I have to say... that'd just be too weird. (And to be honest, what if America grew up to dislike her country? I just think place-names are a liability...)

Bear in mind that Holland Taylor is an actress (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0852466/). But I do like Gianna Holland Taylor.

[identity profile] hitzpink.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I think all of the place names are just awful. I can not imagine a child named Denver, California, or America. Holland isn't as bad. It reminds me of my neice's name, which is Hollyn. December makes me shudder. Charlee, Cambree, Mindy, and Caitey are a little too childish, as somebody else pointed out - I can't see them aging well. I don't know, most of them are just so masculine and "out there." Gianna is pretty, but with a different middle name.

[identity profile] trissyd.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that you have a boy :S

Caitlin Gianna?

[identity profile] annieareyouokay.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Ditto about her having a boy.

I like Hannelore, and Holland but the only person I know named that is on this community, and she really seems to hate her name.

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
LOL. srsly.

[identity profile] aymen.livejournal.com 2006-06-17 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually like your selection, but then I always seem to be the odd one in this group. LOL I really like Reagan, Austin, Holland, Valley, Giovana, Cambree, America and Minnesota. :) If you do pick a 'different' name, make sure YOU give her/him a nickname, before someone else. My girlfriend names her son Barnabe and quickly gave him the nn of 'Brown' before anyone could call him Barny. It's different, but everyone follows it.

Good luck to you and Congratulations! :)

[identity profile] ifancylust.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
i don't know. most of the names seem really, really tacky &/or trashy in my opinion. =/

[identity profile] sotypical42483.livejournal.com 2006-06-18 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Landon Parker - its okay. Landon is nms, I've never cared for it, but there's nothing wrong with it
Caitey Andersyen - whoa, wtf. Andersyen?! Whyyy?? Caitey is too much of a nn I think to stand on its own. Catherine nn Caitey (why the weird spelling) would be so much better, esp when she's an adult
Charlee Austin - wow, boys name much? Charlee is okay as a nn for Charlotte. Austin?!
Charlee Monroe - see above, and Monroe?? Whats up with the surnames?
Holland Monroe - Holland is nice, my nieces name is Hollyn which is similar... but Monroe???
Caitey Madelyn - eek Caitey. Love Madelyn, but spelled correctly. Madeline or Madeleine.
Reagan Valley - VALLEY?! OMG. I hate Reagan.
Denver Valley - wow, sounds like a stop on a ROAD TRIP, NOT A NAME. Thats awful
America Madelyn - hate it
California Giovana - are you serious?!?!? Giovana is pretty, but CALIFORNIA?! that is taking things WAY too far.
Cambree Jackson - Cambree is awful. How tryndee and little girlish and disgusting. Jackson?! On a girl?! As something other than a last name?! No way.
December Lynn - yuck, I hate the "name" December.
Deana Lynn - NICE!!
Gianna Minnesota - Gianna is pretty, whats with Minnesota?!?!?!
Hannelore Monroe - WAY too much. WTF is a Hannelore?
Holland Andersyen - already commented on both of these... why are you tryndeefying Andersyen? Ander-sigh-en? Thats what it looks like
Mindy Monroe - Mindy is tacky and trashy and Monroe is awful

[identity profile] cathkitten.livejournal.com 2006-06-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Caitey Andersyen: That's a whole lotta ys. Catherine (Caity) Anderson would be so much better.
Charlee Austin: Charlotte Austin? Called Charley? I think it's cruel to give your kid a nickname name that can't ever be dignified in a setting that calls for it.
Charlee Monroe: see above
Holland Monroe: like
Caitey Madelyn: Catherine Madelyn called Caitey, if you must.
Reagan Valley: Reagan! Like Ronald?
Denver Valley: I went there, once.
America Madelyn: eh.
California Giovana: ew
Cambree Jackson: ew
December Lynn: this sounds like a stripper
Deana Lynn: OK
Gianna Minnesota: Minnesota? NO.
Hannelore Monroe: Hannelore is beautiful. Perhaps with something other than monroe. If you are a Marilyn Monroe fan, why not Hannelore Marilyn, Hannelore Jean, Hannelore Norma?
Holland Andersyen: Anderson.
Mindy Monroe: stripper!
