[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
our pets names:

virginia (border collie mix)

cats: nigel and grace (and maggie... r.i.p.)

we are animal lovers, obviously. and the guy just called from work (he is a vet at an emergency clinic) with a stray he has fallen head over heels for...

obviously we like people-ish names (although grace is the only one who didnt come with her name, actually)

this isnt her, but she looks similar...

My kitty is named Stella and I get so many compliments, ha. I think it's a very cute name... especially for an animal because I think you can get away with nickname type names. If I had a daughter I'd name her Estelle or Estella, not just Stella. But it really works for our kitty (plus tons of nicknames with this name - Elle, Ella, Bella).

seeing it's a hunting kind of dog, maybe one of these:

Atalanta... was an athletic young maiden huntress who refused to marry any man who couldn't beat her in a foot race. In the end, she was defeated by a Greek warrior who used a ruse by dropping 3 golden apples he had obtained from the goddess Aphrodite. The huntress paused to pick them up, he finished ahead of her, and she was his.

Cyrah... pron. SEER-ah, SYE-rah. Persian origin, its meaning is "throne; sun". Cyrah and variants are feminine forms of Cyrus. It means "lady", as a variant of Kyria (Greek). Greek mythology: Cyrene was a maiden-huntress loved by Apollo.

And there's always Diana. She does look kind of royal. :]

I love really dated names on pets, like Janet (I think that is Fiona Apple's dogs name), just because they are so unexpected.

Emily, Daphne, Bella, and Molly are all people names I want to use for future dogs. My dog is Sophie and we almost got a dog named Abby.

I agree about Sophie, she was already named when we got her. Luckily she's my mom's dog but if I have kids while she's still alive (which probably will happen) I'll have to put off using Sophie. My numbe rone girl name is Emma at the moment though so that's good.

You've gotten some great suggestions and I don't really have any to add.

Just wanted to say we are "people name" pets too.

Dog - Walter
Cats - Maya and Lily
