[identity profile] elf-chic-arwen.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So a close friend of mine is pregnant, and she'll be giving birth sometime in January. She lives on base, and the military doctors won't do an ultrasound or tell her the sex of the baby, so she's basically stuck waiting till it's born to know whether she's got a boy or girl. She ran some name options by me, and here they are:

Girl:

Madison
Jordan
Alexandra

(middle name: Lynn, last name: Kay)

Boy:

Matthew
Alex
Owen

My votes were for a girl, Alexandra (cause Alexandra Lynn Kay has a beautiful sound to it) and for a boy, Owen, cause it's one of my favourite boy names. :D What do you guys think??

I really don't like Jordan for a girl but it' not my baby :-)

Madison Lynn Kay? Sounds decents not wow'ed over it.
Jordan Lynn Kay? Despite my feelings over Jordan it does sound pretty.
Alexandra Lynn Kay? In truth I am not that impressed by it.

Any ideas for the boy middle?

Matthew -blank- Kay? Not a big fan of Matthew might work depending on the middle.
Alex -blank- Kay? Alexander would be better, yet not impressed, still a middle could help change my mind.
Owen -blank- Kay? I really dislike the name Owen and with Kay it's too short, if there is a 2 or more syallable middle name it could work.

I'm voting a big no on the Madison. Too popular. Alexandra is popular too, but more classic, and it's cute. Although, I'm a little biased, because that's my little cutie-pie of a cousin's name.

I don't like Owen. Alex and Matthew are also too popular for my taste...

I think I'd have to agree with you! But what are the options for a boy's middle name, I'm curious?

I think a 3-syllable would go good between Owen Kay, like maybe Owen Christopher Kay, or Owen Gregory Kay. some 2 syllables might work too. Lucas, Matthew (getting both names), Michael,

Actually I think Owen Michael sounds quite nice.

Madison Lynn and Jordan Lynn just don't sound right to me.

I agree with you, I like Alexandra Lynn.

Matthew is far too common for my taste & I like Alex[ander] but I think it's a bit overrated.

Owen is obviously our favorite boy name.. that's what we're naming our son! [ref: icon]. So I agree with your choice there as well.

I think that Lyn Kay will be a bit difficult to work with because they're both so short. Almost like then the first name should be short as well.

Just a suggestion but I bet your friend can go to a free clinic near by and get an ultrasound done if she would really like to know.

The military doctors won't do an ultrasound? Okay, I know from growing up Navy that military doctors are douchebags, but to not run an ultrasound? Ridiculous.

Just so she knows, if it matters to her, she does not have to go to military doctors just because she has military insurance. Both myself and my mother are on military health insurance and go out in town to the doctor.

As for the names, I like Alex/Alexandra. But I'd rather the boy be named Alexander and nicknamed Alex.

Her girls names are too trendy, IMO. I like Jordan the best. It reminds me of The Great Gatsby.

I like Matthew and Owen, but Alex? To me thats a nickname, like naming your son Tommy instead of Thomas.

I LOVE Jordan and Alexandra for girls and Matthew and Alex are two of my favorites.

I'd vote for Jordan for a girl and Alex for a boy.

I think "Lynn Kay" sounds ridiculous... but that's my personal opinion.

My votes are the same as yours... because Jordan is a boys name (IMO), Madison is awful, Matthew is WAY too common & Alex is kind of plain.

I really think that she should consider lenthening the middle name though, because the one syllable middle and last name don't sound right together IMO... how about "Lynette" (little beauty;French)? "Madalynn" ? "Lyndsey" (camp;English)? "Lynelle" (pretty;American)? "Lynley" (meadow;English)? "Lynna" (waterfall;English)? "Lynnea" (pretty;Latin)

Alexandra Lynette Kay
Alexandra Madalynn Kay
Alexandra Lynna Kay
Alexandra Lyndsey Kay

... personally I think those sound a lot better.

And for boys:

Owen Alexander
Owen Matthew

:D! Congrats to her!

hmm both of my kids were born on a military base and i got ultrasounds with both kids...oh well :) tell her about clinics-they are often free or very cheap.

I love the girl name choices! For a boy, I like Owen Matthew together actually....

I love the name Owen for a boy. Maybe you could use the name Sage for a boy and maybe Jordan for the girl name.

Definitely Alexandra if it's a girl. It's the only acceptable girl name on her list, IMO.

All of her boy names are nice.

So if it's a boy and she goes with Owen... his initials will be O.K.

And if he has to do the first initial and last name thing... O.Kay.

Sorry, that was just the first thing I noticed.

EXACTLY first thing I noticed. O.Kay.
