Awhile ago I posted that my cousin was going to name his son Kale. Well, she went into labor today and I've learned that they're spelling it Kael.
Opinions originally were mostly against it because it's a vegetable. I'm interested to find out your opinions on the new spelling.

ETA:

His name is Kael Eizic.
I didn't have any issue with Kael, but I have LARGE issues with Eizic.

i think i'd like it a lot if it weren't already a word. the spelling doesn't change the way it sounds though so it doesn't really change my opinion.

at least it's not a very popular vegetable though. better than broccoli.

I don't get how some people can be like, "well, it's a vegetable", but have nothing to say about other food names, or any other noun name for that matter. Kael is not my favourite spelling of it, but I like the sound.

I'm hearing Kael as Kel (like, short for Kelly) filtered through a thick Southern drawl. Don't hate it but not fully convinced.

And yeah, I'm one of those people who dislikes Kale because I love the vegetable but not the name. I'm against noun names in general, but vegetable names sound especially weird to me. It makes me think Kael should have sisters named Spinach and Squash.

Kael sounds nice, but I'm not fond of that spelling. For some reason, the spelling didn't even bother me that much until I saw Eizic. I like the combination of names...but that spelling :(

Eizic is terrible. I'm sorry, but it is. I know it's a middle name in this case, but say it were his first name, and I were to holler out "Isaac" in a room full of people. It doesn't matter how kre8tyvlee it's spelled, anyone with that name is going to turn at hearing it.

My SO's cousin is Kiel, prn same way. When I first my my SO he didn't realize that Kyle was the common spelling and thought it was the weird version.
