saw this on another (non-lj) site i frequent and thought you'd find it interesting.  i never noticed the feature myself until today.

"Just a little something fun for your Monday afternoon...everyone does it- when you're going through those lists of baby names, you're always trying to think of ways the kid could be made fun of if you chose that name. One website actually lets you see how others with the name were bullied...

Just head over to Nickelodeon's Parents Connect site and click on the tab "Considering the Name" once you've gotten to your chosen name. A bunch of people will tell you exactly how it was to live with that name. Mean kids can be very clever- we were surprised by some of the stuff they came up with!"

i clicked on Ava just to see what info would come up, it's quite an in-depth survey...just thought it may be useful

That was interesting! I'm not surprised that no one knows how to spell or pronounce Siobhan, though.

I do think that calling it "bullying" is a bit much. Teasing about a name is one thing, bullying makes me think of something harsher and possibly physical. Calling someone "shove on your trousers" isn't really bullying, is it?

www.babynamesworld.com has this feature, its been actually more of a curse than a blessing in my case.

as indecisive as i am, i'd find a name i really loved, then i'd find it on their website only to find some crazy teasing/bullying that came with the name.

like ruby. i really liked that name til i started reading all the people who said they got teased because ruby rhymes with boobie and,.. well you see what i mean.

at some point you just have to be like "whatever" though.
My name Sarah for example. The babynamesworld says Sarah has been made fun of by spelling it backwards haras and then mutilating it to "hairy ass". Well, that never happened to me and I would probably just laugh at the person who went to such great lengths to come up with it. Probably worst for me was people calling me Sarah #2 or 3 or tacking on my initial for my last name

The site she linked is babynamesworld.com, it was taken over by Nickelodeon almost a year ago.

Thanks for the link. Mean kids really have surprising ideas sometimes. (And it's not kind but I couldn't help laughing out loud a few times.)

Some of the reasons for bullying on there are kind of funny... like one for Lilian says she got teased because she had big boobs??? rofl

Others I think can be used as cute nicknames. I found the name Lilia through there which I'm really liking, but some people have said they were teased as being called lilypad, which I think is kinda cute to call a toddler.

You have no idea. Large breasts are the WORST thing to have in school. They think you did something to make them grow or pester you about naming them or assume you're a deviant... It's just horrible.
