I do admit to liking Bailey even for a girl, despite myself. But Aiden is still strictly a boys name to me. If I saw this without the "for a girl" part I'd absolutely assume you were talking about a boy.
I think it's cute. It's like calling a girl Joey or Chris, or another name for a boy, but it's a girl. I am assuming that's what you're going for. I think they are good names for both, but Aiden is usually a boys name. But I think it's a "new" name that it could easily be used for a girl, especially in the middle name.
- have two-syllables - are stressed on the first syllable - feature a long A sound in the stressed syllable
To my ear, even if you had the most beautiful name in the world, its flow and musicality would suffer if you paired it with another name that is similar in so many ways. Two different names can enhance each other and allow each to shine; two similar names just make you sound like you are repeating yourself.
I like both names seperate for a boy, but something about Bailey Aiden just doesn't flow. Maybe it's just me but Bay-lee-aid-in'? Bayliadin'. Sounds like some sort of word for something you do with a tractor. (yeah, I make weird connections)
Bailey is a unisex name and Aiden is a boy's name that is starting to get used on girls. It makes things much less confusing if a unisex name is paired with a gender specific name. It doesn't have to be a frilly feminine name, as long as it answers the question of "hmm do you think this name belongs to a boy or girl?"
I also agree with the person who said that the two names don't flow together.
I wouldn't personally use either of those names myself, but if I were you I would probably keep Bailey as the first name and find another middle name, or maybe keep Aiden as the middle name and find another first name.
am I the only one here who sees bailey as a dog's name? maybe it's cause the only time I've heard it before was my friend's golden retreiver when I was in 3rd grade...
omg I always think of Bailey as a dog's name! My mom's best friend's dog's name was Bailey. Okay sounds random, but I ALWAYS associate Bailey with that dog! I really don't like it on people at ALL.
Me personally, I say no. While I like breaking most gender boundaries, when it comes to names I like keeping boys' names with the boys. Names like Jordan, Taylor, Hunter, Bailey and Reilly are pretty popular for baby girls nowadays, but me personally I like keeping them as boys' names or surnames.

Date: 2006-06-13 02:35 am (UTC)Bailey is nms but ok as a girls name. I'd use something more feminine as the mn, something with a different and softer sound.
