Some sites say it comes from Eleanor and Helen. Others say it is a form of Leona. I prefer the latter description, because Leona means "like a lion." Eleanor and Helen has no meaning, according to what I can find. They are just namesakes.

I always though of Lenore/Lenora as a form of Eleanor.

It reminds me of "The Raven" by Poe - dark and beautiful.
