[identity profile] lostrocket.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
1. I was looking around name sites, and at babynames.com I did a search for "American" boy names. The first three made me die: Adymn, Alexavier, and Anakin. If you fancy a laugh, you should check this out (If the link doesn't work, the search is easy to replicate). Some, like Ethanael, look almost like they could be legit (who am I to say if that is or isn't actually a biblical name?). Some, like Mykelti, claim a biblical meaning ("Who is like God?") but I'm pretty sure aren't actually biblical (what's wrong with Michael?). A few highlights from lower down on the list: Probert and Rangle. I don't know if these are just visitor submissions or names that at least one person has actually inflicted upon a child, but either way...it was a good laugh.

2. Anyways, the web-browsing was a tangent from a list of names I was posting. I don't have any real people names to share, but I have Sims! This is a list of names of babies born so far in my current generation.

Boys
Brady
Brennan
Christopher (Kit)
Colton
Dare
Dean
Dylan
Eli
Falcon
Henry
Jacen
Jesse
Keane
Kyan
Michael
Murphy
Nathaniel
Owen
Reese

Maïte
Melian

Whitney

Yes, I got Skandar from Skandar Keynes. Melian is from Tolkien. Maïte should probably be Maïté but I was lazy. I try to pick names that fit the family, so I have some very "normal" names (Alyssa, Molly, Michael, Dean) and some ... less normal (Falcon, Dare, Indy, Aziza). The game is nice because I can pick names that I like but aren't my real life taste.

The only name I don't really like is Flannery, but I wanted a female 'F' name, Finley was taken (her mother), and Fiona doesn't fit the family. It has grown on me since...the kid is just so cute it's hard not to like!

If you're really bored, I have a "census" page with all the sims who are or have been in my neighborhood over here.

Wow. I like your list of names. RARELY do I find a list of names I like. haha I mean, I would weed out a few names I can't pronounce, but otherwise. I like. =D

1. Well that was ummm interesting.
babynames.com is quite unreliable for meanings and such, can see where they've pretty much made them up (far as I know 'Ethanael' = Ethan + Daniel*, Biblical names sure but not mushed together).

2. Those are a pretty neat selection over all, I like a lot of those.

*or maybe Nathaniel, something along those lines.

My first thought was Nathaniel too, but that seemed a bit uncommon compared to the other names.

That makes sense
Kyan is probably the best of the lot.

Thanks! Even though he is Henry James (like the author, we sort of embraced the whole candybar reference. When I was in labor, my sisters showed up at the hospital in t-shirts with the Oh Henry candybar logo on them. They handed out shirts to close family and friends, too. My husband got one that said, Oh, Daddy! on the back. It was quite cute. We also handed out candybars to visitors, instead of cigars.

HAHAHAHA

Fun post, hilarious link. I can't get over the stupidity of some of those names. Thanks.

My flist just totally threw me for a loop. I saw the Sims icon, and then thought the post would be for the comm thesims2, but it was for baby_names and it was just bizarre. Do you remember/know me from that comm??? I thought it was so cool that we share these two comms. I can see how they are connected, but I can also see how they might be a strange combination.

I didn't think the names posted on that "American" list were that bad, but I'm the black sheep of this comm, I think, lol.

Hehe black sheep baaa. Uhm, I think they're not all so bad, but still amusing.

I think part of why I play the Sims is how much I love names. I could never have enough children to use all the names I like otherwise.

Whoops, I am still logged in with my sim journal name, but this is lostrocket.
