Two-parter
Jun. 12th, 2006 01:51 pm1. I was looking around name sites, and at babynames.com I did a search for "American" boy names. The first three made me die: Adymn, Alexavier, and Anakin. If you fancy a laugh, you should check this out (If the link doesn't work, the search is easy to replicate). Some, like Ethanael, look almost like they could be legit (who am I to say if that is or isn't actually a biblical name?). Some, like Mykelti, claim a biblical meaning ("Who is like God?") but I'm pretty sure aren't actually biblical (what's wrong with Michael?). A few highlights from lower down on the list: Probert and Rangle. I don't know if these are just visitor submissions or names that at least one person has actually inflicted upon a child, but either way...it was a good laugh.
2. Anyways, the web-browsing was a tangent from a list of names I was posting. I don't have any real people names to share, but I have Sims! This is a list of names of babies born so far in my current generation.

Yes, I got Skandar from Skandar Keynes. Melian is from Tolkien. Maïte should probably be Maïté but I was lazy. I try to pick names that fit the family, so I have some very "normal" names (Alyssa, Molly, Michael, Dean) and some ... less normal (Falcon, Dare, Indy, Aziza). The game is nice because I can pick names that I like but aren't my real life taste.
The only name I don't really like is Flannery, but I wanted a female 'F' name, Finley was taken (her mother), and Fiona doesn't fit the family. It has grown on me since...the kid is just so cute it's hard not to like!

If you're really bored, I have a "census" page with all the sims who are or have been in my neighborhood over here.

Date: 2006-06-12 08:15 pm (UTC)babynames.com is quite unreliable for meanings and such, can see where they've pretty much made them up (far as I know 'Ethanael' = Ethan + Daniel*, Biblical names sure but not mushed together).
2. Those are a pretty neat selection over all, I like a lot of those.
*or maybe Nathaniel, something along those lines.

Date: 2006-06-12 09:34 pm (UTC)I usually don't go to babynames.com, but I wanted some crazy made-up American names because I was having a hard time finding for a child in a certain family. I picked Kyan off that list.

Date: 2006-06-12 09:11 pm (UTC)I didn't think the names posted on that "American" list were that bad, but I'm the black sheep of this comm, I think, lol.

Date: 2006-06-12 09:33 pm (UTC)I think part of why I play the Sims is how much I love names. I could never have enough children to use all the names I like otherwise.
Whoops, I am still logged in with my sim journal name, but this is lostrocket.
