So Dh and I really like Amelia for a girl's name, but I want to be able to have a nickname for her.  He really likes Mia, but I really like Millie.

I have nothing against Mia (other than I am a teacher and had a Mia who was a holy terror- and I always think about her when I say Mia), but does Millie sound like an old lady name?

I just picture a little dark haired girl with blue eyes name Millie....

Am I nuts?

I think Millie is gorgeous! I went to school with a girl who had this as her given name, and it totally suited her. I kind of love it as a nickname for Mathilda, but it works for Amelia as well.

I went to high school/college with a girl named Melissa who went by Millie. I like it.

my cousin calls her daughter millie but with more of a "meal-ee" sound to it. I loathe mia, though. but that's more from ED perspective.

My sister (Amelia) was always "meal-ee" when she was younger.

My best friend was Amelia, and went by Millie. I think its such a pretty name / nickname.

For something different, you could go with Emelia, and use Emmy and the nickname.

I like Millie! Even as a given name.

I don't really like Millie. It reminds me of bugs - miller moths and those little rolly-polly bugs for some reason.

I really like the nn Amy for Amelia, personally. I think it's a sweet name that belongs in the same catagory as Emily and Emma - sweet and gentle.

But that's just me.

My 2-year-old niece is Emeline, and goes by Millie - she's blue-eyed with blonde ringlets. So maybe I'm biased, but I like the name Millie :)

No no, Millie is wonderful! I love it! I don't think it sounds old ladyish at all. Millie is popular in England now, it's only a matter of time before it makes it across the pond. I'd much prefer it to Mia, although Mia is cute too. It's just more common.

Why don't you both just call her what you want? My mom always called me Lude and my dad always called me Chels. Neither of them ever called me what the other did, and I never found it weird.

I like Millie better.

I LOVE Millie! I don't think it sounds old lady; it would be adorable for a little girl.

I don't like Mia, it makes me think of bulimia.

I don't like either. Mia is too trendy sounding (and makes me think of The Princess Diaries) and Millie does sound like an old lady name, but I'm not sure why I dislike it (because I'm usually not opposed to old lady names, being that Harriet is my favorite).

What about Lia?

I like millie the best!
I am also a teacher and cannot for the life of me agree on a name with my SO because EVERY name he comes up with reminds me of a past student!! It is soooo hard!!!

Amelia is a nice name :)
I'm a teacher too and taught a girl called Mia last year, her sister is called Millie. I don't like either of their names.
I had a friend called Amelia, people called her me-lee (as opposed to mill-ee)
