Persephone?
What nickname possibilities can you come up with for Persephone? I feel like it's a bit of a mouthful to use as is, and would only consider it if there was a really great nickname.
What do you think of it in general?
I generally tend to fall back on Penelope since it's a *bit* more pedestrian, but I really do prefer Persephone. Plus the part of me that's a Firefly geek doesn't want to let it go ;)

You could always do the whole name your kid one thing but call it by its middle name.

I'm not greek in the slightest though... do you think it's too much of a reach?

Perry or Effy would be nice nicknames.

I like the nickname Pera (Peh-ruh). I know it's not as directly derived, but it's my favorite I've come up with.

I've only watched the 1st Matrix movie once, and haven't seen the others, so thankfully I don't have that association.

Pera
Perry (or Peri, maybe leading to Peridot, then to Dot or Dottie. These things happen.)
Sophie
Effie (actually a nickname for Euphemia)
Cora
I did a little more googling and found some other suggestions:
Posie (so maybe Poppy, too, or Pepper, or Peppie)
Rennie (or maybe Renny or Wren)
Serpina
Or, and maybe this is a stretch, Pom(me) or Garnet after the associated fruit.

I've loved Persephone for YEARS, before I even discovered Firefly. Of course, the connection is an added bonus. ;) I, too, have struggled with the nickname thing. I didn't care for Persi, but it has grown on me. I think that's the case with that spelling because it's so close to Parsi. Anyway, Sephie is okay, but it feels insubstantial, you know? Funny, since it's so close to Sophie. If the person who said Cora is a legit nickname is right, well, I'd go with that. Maybe. I love that name as well. Of course, you do loose any direct sound-connection to Persephone and it seems a shame that the name wouldn't be used. Oni? Per-SEPH? Hm... Why is this name so difficult? :\
