My husband and I actually had a serious conversation about baby names! We might be sick of it by the time we actually start TTC in September.

Anyway, he says "what about Jamie?"

What do you think?

I'm not averse to it, but it sounds like a nickname, and I can't figure out for what. I don't care for Jamila, Jamaica, or Jamala, and I'm not naming a girl James or Jameson. If I used another Ja- name, could we call her Jamie? If so, what name would you use?

I think that any Ja- name could have Jamie as a nickname, and really, any J name could. Nicknames don't have to exactly correspond to the actual name, and I do agree that Jamie should be a nickname rather than a full name.

I knew a Jamie whose full name was Jessica, actually, so... I guess that's why I think it can be short for just about any J name.

I don't know that I'd use it with something that didn't have jam in it. You could try a name that didn't start that way, like Marijam/Mirjam (variation on Miriam, and probably not pronounced with the J sound. But I'm unfamiliar with Dutch or Swedish Js.)

I've known a bunch of people named Jamie/Jayme/Jaime since I was a kid. Most were girls and that was their full name. The boy Jamie I knew was short for Jeremy.

If you spell it Jaime, it'll look less like a nickname, and there will be less gender confusion since it's more obviously female.

I agree it sounds more like a nickname or diminutive than a full name. For Jam- names, there's Jamina, Jamesina and Jemima - but really I think you could use any J- name if you wanted to.

I don't think Jamie needs to be a nickname on a girl. It works as a feminine form of James. That being said, I don't mind it on a girl (although it sounds dated), but I love it on a boy as a nn for James.

As for your nameslist, I voted yes as long as I liked the first name and thought it sounded alright with the middle name, whether I liked the mn or not:

I've known several Jamie/Jaime's with that as their full name. (Almost all girls) It's never been weird or felt "too nick-namey" for me. I actually like it a lot.

Actually, several of the girl Jamie's went by "James", or "Jame" as their nick name, lol

In Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries, Jaime is a boy's name. I never heard it on a girl, actually.

Yeah, unfortunately, the more I read through the comments, the less I like it. I can't imagine where my husband came up with it.

I know Grace is a filler name but it's also my grandmother and great-grandmother's name. Theresa, Finnegan, Louise, Scott, Joseph, Warren, and Paul are also family names... they're important!

Personally I am not a huge fan of Jamie/Jaime. It sounds dated.

I love a lot of your girl names. Astrid Josephine, Charlotte Louise, Lydia Celeste, Olivia Estelle, and Willa Josephine are my favorites on the girls.

Milo Alexander is probably my favorite on the boys. And thank you for spelling Cameron the correct way! =]
